I sat on the edge of the table and looked at him. This was one of the many parts of him that I was drawn to, his kind heart. I knew he’d disapprove, but I wasn’t playing around with these motherfuckers. I would not leave any alive to harm me, Adrian, or anyone else we cared about. This was just something he was going to have to learn to deal with, unfortunately. I had told him I would take care of the messy parts of this case.
“Everyone has somebody in their lives, Adrian. However, she made her choice to rat you out to the mages who paid her handsomely for her betrayal. Her family will mourn and they will move on with a very wealthy insurance payout. I made sure of that.” I rose from the table and walked over to him, taking him into my arms. “You don’t need to concern yourself with any of this past the part of the spell where I’ll need your assistance.”
He swallowed hard and looked up at me. “No… no… I knew you would do this. It’s just… I knew her personally. She was my friend. I’m having a hard time accepting that she turned on me and that she is dead. And killed by my lover on top of it.”
I personally didn’t care that the bitch was dead. She fucking made her bed and she could damn sure lie in it. No one fucked with me or mine and got away with it. I didn’t play that shit. My level of forgiveness only went so far. I released Adrian and pulled out my cell phone because it was buzzing in my pocket. I read the text Nadia sent me.
“Nadia is here,” I told Adrian. I texted back for her to take the items from the magic store to the holding cell. I looked up at Adrian. “Are you ready?”
“Do you know how many mages are in this line?” he asked me.
“Don’t,” I said.
He frowned. “Don’t what?”
“Don’t ask how many people you know I plan on killing with this spell. Why bother yourself with those kinds of details?”
“Jesus,” he said under his breath and huffed. He ran his hand over his hair, but nodded, giving in. “You’re right. I don’t need to know. It’s best I don’t. Let’s get this over with.”
I led him out of our home and onto my private elevator. I had access to all the floors, but the other elevators didn’t have access to certain floors. Part of my security. One level above the garage was where the holding cells were.
“So, you have holding cells for people you plan on killing?” Adrian asked as we rode the elevator down.
I smirked. “There you go again.”
“I told you I might ask these types of questions,” Adrian said.
My smirk turned into a smile and I nodded. “You did. Sometimes. For the most part, I use them to contain members of my pride who need to be restrained. Some need to calm down after the transformation. Some need to be punished, so that’s why I had the cells built. Every once in a while, I’ll put an enemy in there until I’m ready to deal with them like with this mage.”
“Okay, I understand,” Adrian said as the elevator stopped and the doors opened.
We stepped off into a brightly lit open area with a security desk being monitored by two guards, both part of my pride. Normally, that area was empty unless I had someone in the cells to be monitored. Both females rose and bowed their heads to me as a show of not only respect, but subservience.
I nodded in acknowledgement as I led Adrian to the cell where the mage was. I had six cells here, all different levels of comfort. Some were like a hotel room, mainly for those who needed to chill. Others were just a cell, no comfort whatsoever and only a hole in the floor to piss and shit in as their only luxury. That was where the mage was.
Nadia was standing outside of the room with a box. “I got everything you asked for,” she said.
I handed the grimoire to Adrian and took the box from her. “Thank you.”
“Do you need me?” she asked.
“Not right now, but stay close.”
“You… you made it quick, right?” Adrian asked Nadia.
“Made what quick?” Nadia asked, frowning slightly in her confusion.
“The shop owner?” Adrian said.
“No. That wasn’t my orders,” she answered.
Adrian looked at me, but I didn’t say anything. I did warn him that he may not want to know all of the details. I told Nadia to play with her prey. Which meant I wanted her to make sure the target felt my wrath. That bitch almost got Adrian killed. They were only after me at first. She was the one who pointed the loaded gun at his head. As far as I was concerned, she probably didn’t suffer enough. She was lucky it wasn’t me personally that she had to deal with. Had I not been enjoying breakfast and a beautiful morning fuck with my lover, she would have.
I used my handprint and retinal scan to open the cell and walked in with Adrian following behind me. The mage was on her knees, snarling at us. I placed the box on the metal table in the room. This room also held a few devices designed for torture. Drains in the cement floor made for easy cleaning of blood and other bodily fluids.
“This is a torture room?” Adrian asked as he looked around. I turned to him to see him eyeing the wall of tools one could use to inflict unimaginable pain.
“It is. Like I said, this type of cell is for those who need to be punished. I’ll show you one of the other ones so that you can see the difference,” I said, then began to remove the items we’d need from the box. I made sure Nadia scrubbed the shop of any ledgers or paperwork that linked it to me. I knew my credit card had been used at the shop prior to me discovering Olga’s true nature. Last thing I needed was for my company to pop up on bank statements. That was why it was important to have hackers in your employ or pride. I didn’t bring anyone into my service who didn’t offer something extraordinary in return. Especially if they wanted to be bitten by me.
