Monty shook his head. “No.”

“Do you want to?” Ren asked, his tone soft... but not apprehensive.

Again, Monty was silent.

“You want to,” Ren said.

Monty looked away for the first time, and Ren reached over, taking his chin into his delicate grasp, bringing his face back to him. Their eyes connected once more.

“I want what you want. I knew from the first time I saw you that you were the perfect man for me. Not just because you were the sexiest Dom in Scarlet Letter, but because there was something inside of you that called to me. Your darkness fills my abyss. I can take anything and everything you need to do to me and for yourself. I want you to own me, to use me, and at the same time, I want you to let me do the same to you.”

Monty was speechless as he listened to Ren. He couldn’t believe the words he was hearing and more importantly, he needed to hear them.

Ren leaned forward and kissed him. “Tell me... do you want to kill someone?”

“I...” Monty paused, then licked his lips. “I don’t know.” It was his most honest answer.

Ren pursed his plump lips. “What’s holding you back, sir?”

“When we’re alone like this, you can call me Monty. I’ll let you know when I want to hear you call me sir,” Monty said.

A wide grin filled Ren’s face, because he knew what it meant. It was a sign of how close they’d grown together as a couple. “Yes, Monty,” he said, taking immediate advantage.

Monty chuckled, then sighed. “I’ve never killed anyone, but then again, I’ve never beat someone into a bloody mess before either.”

“My brother told me about that,” Ren said. “You enjoyed it?”

Monty’s brows creased as he thought back to that moment. “I didn’t think that I would. I had been prepared to kill that man, because I refuse to die in his place in any scenario. But beating him, having total control over him... it touched a darkness inside of me that I didn’t know was there.”

Ren caressed Monty’s jawline, then leaned over, kissing his husband’s cheek. “I knew you were a badass by how you would look at me at the club. There was just something in your eyes.”

“You knew I was a killer, you mean?”

Ren shook his head. “I knew youcouldkill if you needed to and not have it ruin you.”

Monty lifted his hand, water dripped from his fingers. He brushed black strands away from Ren’s pretty brown eyes. “And if I did kill someone for your family, what would you think of me?”

Ren lowered his gaze. “That you are a man my father can trust. That means a great deal to me, Monty.”

“What about you?” Monty asked. “I asked you what you would think.”

“You already have my trust. If you need to torture or kill someone, I know it’s because it must be done, even if you did enjoy it on some level. I know you’re not the serial killer type. It would be for business, like what happened at the docks,” Ren said. “Are you worried about what Zach will think?” he asked, thinking about his husband’s best friend. “Because you don’t have to worry about me. I’m yours no matter what.”

“Are you?” Monty asked.

“Always,” Ren replied.

Monty bit his bottom lip because Ren was everything he didn’t even know he wanted and he gave him a life he thought had been beneath him. Turned out, being in power was the best feeling ever. Still, he did ponder the question Ren asked about Zach, who the Lords called “Richie”.

“He and I practically grew up together, but I think we’re both discovering things about each other given our current circumstances,” Monty said.

“Because he’s with the Lords and our enemy?” Ren asked, then leaned in, wrapping his slender arms around Monty’s broad shoulders.

Monty nodded. “He is one I will never fight, so I hope your father doesn’t expect me to do that. Zach is my brother.”

Ren was looking at Monty, but he nodded. “I won’t pretend to know that I’m aware of everything my father does, or my brother. But I hope you won’t ever have to make that choice.”

Monty didn’t say anything because he felt the same way.
