MOST EMBARRASSING DAY EVER… LAS VEGAS, NV

“Man,I feel like my dreams are for real finally coming true.” My boyfriend Alvin, better known as AJ, grinned as we rode in the back seat of the all-black Tahoe he’d rented to chauffeur us, bypassing the bright lights of Vegas.

“I know. I’m so proud of you.” I brushed my thumb along the back of his hand before he leaned over to kiss me.

I loved seeing the excitement on his face and witnessing all the success he’d been able to garner. He was so handsome with his light complexion, curly hair, and trimmed facial hair. Standing at about six feet, one inch, he was just tall enough.

Tonight, we were headed to a party the production team ofDough Boyz—the TV show AJ starred on—was having to celebrate the fact the network was renewing the show for its fifth season.

Though the show had crazy high ratings, the lead actor Ramonté Ayers had some personal issues, aka a love for alcohol, that often disrupted filming. Because of this, rumors had spread that the network would want to possibly cut ties with the show. Thankfully, they were just rumors.

We’d found out it was being renewed about a month ago, but tonight was the party to celebrate it since contracts had been signed this week, according to AJ.

“I worked hard to get here.” AJ looked out of the window at the bright city of Las Vegas, gripping my hand tightly while in deep thought. His other hand gripped his chin.

Hehadworked hard. Coming from two parents who’d died of overdoses and having had to move himself from Connecticut to Los Angeles in pursuit of his dreams, he’d made it quite far, and I was so happy for him. Most men in his position would’ve allowed their circumstances to dictate their life negatively.

“You did.”

“Now, all I need is to book a show where I’m the lead.” He winked, making me giggle. “Even better would be to get a movie as a superhero for one of the Prevail Studios superhero franchises.”

Currently, Ramonté played the lead kingpin Branden Knight, while AJ and another actor, Unique Compton, played his right-hand men. Compton was Ramonté’s longtime best friend on the show, while AJ was a character they’d met in adulthood.

“Yeah, when you become a Prevail superhero, you’ve made it big,” I stated.

“Facts.” AJ exhaled heavily just as the driver pulled up to the hotel, stopping in its valet section.

He climbed out once the driver parked and came around to help AJ and me out of the back seat before letting us both know he’d be around until we called to say we were ready to go.

We followed the signs that led to the ballroom, where the party tonight was being held, and I couldn’t stop smiling. I felt good. I had my career as a celebrity makeup artist, a good man by my side, and his dreams had also come true. All that was left was for us to get married, have children, and continue to hit our goals.

“Classy Girl” by Turbo played as AJ and I entered the packed ballroom of the hotel with beautifully dressed people mingling, drinking, chatting, and laughing. Everyone was in good spirits, which made sense.

“AJ.” Tamira Weathers, the showrunner forDough Boyz, walked up in a tight blue dress with her husband hovering nearby. He was handsome but clearly about twenty years younger than her fifty-five years. “Congratulations. We can’t wait to start filming.” She beamed.

“I know. I’m ready. Just let me know,” he joked, knowing he already had the schedule.

Tamira threw her head back, giggling before giving a finger wave and walking off with her man.

“How old is he?” I questioned as AJ and I started moving through the room, headed for the bar.

Chuckling, he replied, “Maybe thirty.”

“Well, at least he’s a grown man.”

“Yeah, but they been married for a little over a decade.” AJ lifted his brows at me as I let my jaw drop in shock.

When we got to the bar, Ramonté was already there throwing a hefty double shot back. When he slammed the glass down to ask for another before turning to us, I could see how glassy his eyes were and how flushed his cedar complexion was. His wife sat on the stool beside him looking worried, as if her husband would do or say something crazy at any minute.

“We back!” Ramonté shouted so loudly that he drowned out the music a bit.

“We are.” AJ nodded demurely, patting his co-star’s back with a nod.

“Ramonté.” He stuck his hand out to me.

“I know. We’ve met.” I shook it anyway, chuckling some at his befuddled expression.

“Baby, come on. I want to hit the seafood bar.” His wife gave me a subtle but shameful smile as she stood, fixing her short dress with one hand and holding onto Ramonté with the other.
