When Aurora saw the puzzled ass look on my face, she said, “I wanted to talk to you, but you’ve been bringing her home, so I had to hide until y’all left in the morning. I know you check the whole house before you lay down for bed, and I couldn’t risk being caught. I was just waiting for the day that you came home without her.” She shot Kabrina a look.

“I can’t make this shit up,” I mumbled. “You gotta get the fuck out.”

“Okay, but can I have some extra money? The apartment I chose is out of my budget and?—”

“You should’ve chosen some shit that was in ya budget, knowing I was only paying first and last.” I waved toward the bedroom door using my gun and said, “Let’s go.”

I mouthed to Kabrina that a nigga was sorry, and she just nodded before padding out of the room and going back down the hall.

“Unique, just let me talk to you?—”

“Nothing to talk about. And give me my damn key,” I said once we got outside.

While she fished for the shit, I finally located her car parked across the street and down a few houses.

“You are so fucked up.” She began whimpering. “Talking about you care about me and would be sad if I died, but look how you do me. Does she know you told me that?”

Frowning, I said, “I don’t think she’d give a fuck. But most normal, non-sociopathic muthafuckas care when they think someone they know or was cool with has died. Ain’t no way you took that shit to mean I was still fucking with you.” I accepted my key that she pressed roughly into my damn hand. “Don’t come back, or I’m gon’ call Daisy on yo’ stupid ass,” I stated to her back, shaking my damn head still.

Once I was sure that Aurora was gone, I ventured back inside and up to my bedroom, putting the safety back on my heat before slipping it back into the drawer.

Kabrina was lying down on her phone, but when I came back from taking a piss and washing my hands, she put the shit away.

As soon as I got in the bed with her, she said, “I don’t think I could ever live here. It’s going to be hard enough to spend the night.”

Wrapping my arm around her and bringing her in, I responded, “I promise nothing like that will ever happen again, but I also get it. Can’t really blame you on that one, love.” I moved her hair from her face as she looked up at me.

“I like how you never debate me on what I feel,” she said, leaning up to kiss me gently.

“Moms taught me a while ago you can’t argue with muthafuckas on how they feel or perceive shit. You can only state what you mean or meant or what you trying to do.”

“I can’t wait to meet her. She sounds dope.”

“She is.” I smirked. “Should’ve went to the Olympics for belted ass whuppings, but I still love her.”

Kabrina chuckled. “I don’t know how I feel about you meeting my family, but we will see how it goes.”

“You the only child—excluding ya half siblings I know. You got cousins?”

“Nope. My mom was the only one of her sisters to have a kid. So it’s just me. But my aunts have a lot of friends and cousins, so that’s pretty much my family.”

“Damn.”

“Lonely childhood. I know. I would’ve loved to have siblings like you had.”

“Well, all my brothers are married, so you’ll have some sisters over there. They all cool too. No clique type shit,” I assured her, loving the excited look on her face.

I’d be ready to murk anybody who had the audacity to be mean to this girl right here.

“I’m real excited now.”

“Good.” I got more comfortable, turning some to look into her pretty eyes. “When you get ready to live together, we can get some new shit. I can sell this one. I bought it outright.”

“You shouldn’t have to sell it for me.”

“I should. But it ain’t only for you. This is my first home and too modest for the money I’m about to come into. At the time, I just wanted something nice, spacious, and mine, but I always planned to get something greater once my career and funds allowed the shit.”

“You always act like you’re broke. How much do you make an episode?”
