The twins stroked along Blake’s back when he bared his teeth as a particularly powerful contraction ripped through Kade. My son let out a loud whine and panted against it.

“Kade, let your wolf take over for the pushing.” James advised.

“Remember, let her take over.” I whispered.

His eyes closed, and I could almost feel him bearing down. Huffs of air escaped as his teeth gritted, a snarl working its way out of him. It felt more like hours, but it was only a matter of minutes before Aldrin placed a tiny bundle in front of Kade and Blake. They worked together to free the pup, and he squeaked as he took his first breath.

My grandson was the most adorable bundle of gray-white fur with startling aquamarine eyes I’d ever seen. His parents licked and cleaned him, and he curled up against Kade’s neck as another pup made its way into the world.

Greyson.Kade supplied his son’s name over the pack link, broadcasting it wide. I felt the shock and pride of the surrounding pack members inside the house and buildings nearby.

Another little boy arrived soon after, this one a pale gray all over with occasional patches of red. His eyes were golden and held a wisdom beyond anything I’d ever seen. His omega status was clear immediately, and he nuzzled into his papa alongside his brother.

Felix.Kade told the pack again, sounding tired after all his efforts.

“Nearly there, my baby boy. I’m so proud of you.” My voice cracked with emotion.

Thanks, Papa. I’m so glad you’re here. I love you.

I love you too. We both do.

We do.Dakota echoed. Looking up at him, I could see the tears in his eyes.

Axel was openly weeping with joy and some unnamed emotion I couldn’t parse. Chase looked slightly green, while also proud. A frown marred Aldrin’s features.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Hmm? Oh, nothing, just this one is taking a little longer.” He moved so he was facing Kade. “You’ve done so well and the babies look great, but I need you to push this one out now. I know you’re tired, but I don’t want either of you to wait much longer, okay?”

Kade’s wolf inclined its head. I felt the tension in his body. Blake’s eyes moved from the babies back to his mate and they locked. I felt the burst of alpha power, the insistence that Kade pushed. I was so grateful to The Luna that Blake was so strong. Trying to broadcast only to him, I said, thank you, son, for loving my boy so well.

His eyes filled with tears for just a second before he refocused on his trembling mate.

Only a few minutes later, Aldrin handed the small bundle to the parents. Once she was cleared from the sac, we all froze. It wasn’t possible. The little girl with black and gray fur, the same aquamarine eyes as Greyson, was an alpha.

Elliotte. Kade announced. I felt the ripple of shock hit the pack.

“How?” I looked at my in-laws.

“I—“ James couldn’t find the words.

Aldrin was silent for a while as the pups all cuddled up to their papa. Kade looked at them with so much love tinged with confusion. “I’d read myths.” Blake’s head snapped up to look at the doctor. “Alpha, would it be alright to ask Ívarr here to look at the pups? The elf is over four hundred years old. He might have more information for us.”

Blake nodded. A strange sight while he was in wolf form.

“May I?” James indicated to the babies. “I want to weigh them and check them. They should shift soon.” As if waiting for their cue, each shifted for the first time. Two black-haired babies and one with deep red curls lay nestled against Kade.

Blake also shifted to pick each one up and hand them to James when he was ready. He told each one, “welcome, little one, to the family and the Sweetwater pack.”

It was a deeply moving moment, one I was proud to be part of, but there was a tinge of worry and fear. Having an alpha female was incredible, yet it was another target on the back of the Sweetwater pack.

“It’s been two weeks. How can we not have any answers?” I heard Kade demand from my place in Dakota’s seat. Kade was back in his office, the door ajar, against the advice of Aldrin and James. We’d come to the agreement that I would come and look after the babies for a couple of hours during the day, usually after school, so that Kade could do some work and have some adult time. Sometimes Angelica would assist me, mostly she wanted to go off with her friends.

Usually, that time was alone time with his mate. Shifter healing had Kade fully recovered from the birth. A nap followed it, but today Kade couldn’t settle. I’d seen him get more and more worked up each time that Elliotte was treated differently from her brothers. Her designation was causing all sorts of issues. Otherwise, they were doing well. The pups were smaller than single babies usually were, just under five pounds each, but as predicted, they were thriving now that they were out of the womb and not competing for space and food.

I rocked the stroller with the three of them napping peacefully. Having this time with them was a gift, and I adored every hair on their heads.

“Ívarr has been looking into it. He promised to return with information for us. Histories that would help the council understand what had happened.” Blake tried to soothe Kade. “Why don’t we have a nap?” I heard the suggestive tone in his words and shared a laughing glance with Roan. Dakota pretended to gag behind me.
