Chris gave me a lecturing stare as I handed him Astrid’s phone. “How the hell did you pull this off?” he inquired as he walked over to his desk and connected Astrid’s phone to his computer.
“She shouldn’t have left me unattended with her belongings.” I shrugged. “Is it even possible for you to do anything with it?”
“You didn’t try to unlock it, did you?” Chris rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Her passcode was literally six-nine-six-nine,” I smirked as he told me this. Astrid didn’t quite strike me as the type to set the code to something so simple. Then again, I wasn’t expecting to see a cute little creature tied up on her screen either.
I got right to the point. “What about the tracking software?”
“Jesus, man, can you be patient for five minutes?” Chris chucked a rag at me. “You know, Ryder is going to be pissed if he finds out what you were using his software for.”
“If he didn’twantto track people, he wouldn’t have developed a software to do just that.” I sat back on the couch listening to Chris curse me under his breath. “Besides, she wants me to know her every move.”
Chris scoffed. “Oh, is this a conversation you two had while you got your hair done?” I could sense that he was rolling his eyes. “I bet it went something like this. ‘Hey Astrid, how would you feel if I stalked you?’ ‘Oh,Colt, you’re so silly, please, stalk me, I’m begging you’.” He pitched his voice an octave higher to mimic what he thought she sounded like, which seemed more like he was going through puberty.
“You know what I mean.” I was far from amused.
Chris sounded annoyed. “You and your ‘vibe check’ bullshit.”
“How are we even friends?” I shot back at Chris, challenging his response. “You aren’t currently passing my vibe check”
“You’d be lost without me and you know that.” He glanced over at me before putting his focus back on his mission. “Almost finished, it’s loading in now.”
“I owe you one,” I said confidently as I hit my vape, planning out what I was going to say when I texted her to let her know our phones hadaccidentallygotten switched.
???
??Astrid
I held up the phone that had been left in place of where mine had been to show Haileigh. “This isn’t my phone.”
“Oh, oh, oh!” Haileigh’s excitement built up. “I’ve read about this one!” Haileigh always had her nose stuck in a book when she wasn’t busy. She loves her dark romance.
I looked at her slightly unamused. “Okay, I’ll play your game.”
She pressed her lips together before speaking. “He must have switched your phone with his so that you would be forced to see him again!”
“Well, he’s not going to want to see me after I try and shove my foot up his ass.” Haileigh smiled at me and I knew what she was about to tell me, so I tried to beat her to the punch. “Astrid, you couldn’t even reach his ass. Ha ha, so funny…Not.”
Haileigh looked at me like I had just taken away all of her fun by beating her to her own punchline, but I felt very proud of myself. “You need to get home. You’ve got a concert to get ready for.” She sighed and propped her arms on the counter.
“Girl, so do you! Who else do you think I would ask to go with me?” I laughed and shook my head over how dramatic she was being. “As long as hubby is fine with it?”
“Oh, Braden will be thrilled to have some extra time without me hanging on his arm.” She winked at me and grabbed her purse. “What will I wear?”
We were both distracted as soon as the phone vibrated in my hand, and it was a text fromme.
“Told you” Haileigh was more excited than I was. “Don’t just stand there… Open it!”
I slid down the drop-down to see the text that had been received was the code for how to unlock his phone.Smart.I typed it into his phone and opened up a rather boring device. Nogames, only photos taken from concerts, and - I was interrupted by another message coming through.??
Colt: Hey there, sunshine. It seems that we got our phones switched in a little mix-up at the salon.
Me: More like, someone went through my stuff and purposely switched them.
Colt: You caught me. Meet me before the concert tonight so we can switch back?
Me: I didn’t think you were going to the concert.
Colt: Did I say that? No. I’ll be there, I just won’t be backstage with you.
