“Or… pizza at your place,” suggested Leena.

I shook my head. “N-No. I wanna come. I don’t wanna b-be stuck in m-my room every weekend.”

“There ya go.”

“What is this thing exactly, anyway? It’s not another party, right?”

“No, no. No party. Just a little get together. Brie, the obnoxious girl I was telling you about, is helping to organize it. She told me to invite some people, so I’m inviting you. It’s a sorority thing. Some sort of girls’ night in. Food, some music, maybe some games.”

I smiled at her. Not many people invited me to things. “Thanks for choosing m-me. What time does it start?”

“In a few hours, so if you wanna go back to your room and get changed, I can pick you up and take you there?”

Swinging my bag on my shoulder, I thought about Leena’s suggestion. As long as Asher wasn’t there, then I’d be good. “That sounds perfect. This has b-been a pretty long week. M-Maybe I deserve those chicken wings you were talking about…”

Chapter 7

DAISY

When I opened up my dorm door a few hours later, I was met with Leena’s smiling face.

“Hey, you look amazing!” Leena beamed at me. She looked so vibrant and pretty with her loose curls and flowy, white dress. “You ready to go?”

I cleared my throat, hoping that what I was wearing would be enough to impress Leena’s friends. I had slipped into a blue gingham dress after getting back to my dorm and showering. “Yeah, I think so. You look so great, b-by the way.”

“Aw, thanks. You ready to meet somemostlyfriendly sorority girls?”

Tucking some hair behind my hair, I nodded. “As long as they’re m-mostly friendly.”

I let Leena lead the way. I didn’t really know where all the sorority houses were on campus since I was living in the dorms. But Leena linked an arm with mine, pointing out all the other sorority houses along the way. There were a lot. When we got to the Gamma Theta house, I was immediately greeted with a sea of smiling faces. Some girls hugged me, others gave me a kiss to the cheek as a hello. It was all oddly warm and welcoming.

“So, this is Cassie, that’s Mia, that’sLayla. Not to be confused with Leena like some girls keep on doing,” Leena explained.

I laughed, letting my friend lead me through the house. There were more hugs and more greetings, until a girl stepped in front of us with a raised eyebrow. She was a little taller than me – especially in her heels. Her little, black dress suddenly made me feel like I had picked out the wrong clothes.

“By the way, Daisy, this is Brie.” Leena moved a hand in between us. “And Brie, this is Daisy.”

I held up a hand, giving Brie a little wave. “Hi.”

“You’re kinda late,” Brie said sharply, her light brown locks cascading down her shoulders.

Leena sent me a look. “Yeah, I had to pick Daisy up. This thing hasn’t even started yet, though.”

“Yes, but I want this event to run smoothly. Obviously.” Brie rolled her eyes. “Did you make the food?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Leena muttered. “I made the wings. I did that in the morning. They’re in the fridge.”

“Good.” With that, Brie spun on her heels, arms crossed over her chest as she walked away.

Leena’s head shook. “She was the obnoxious one I was telling you about.”

“Ah,” was all I said.

Leena brought me into the kitchen where I helped her get the precious chicken wings set up. The giant, white kitchen featured a just as white island in the middle of the room. There was already an assortment of food presented to us: chips and dip, a vegetable platter, some sandwiches. Leena happily placed her chicken wings on the island with a hum.

“She better enjoy these,” Leena said quietly.

I shrugged. “They look really good to m-me.”
