Daisy didn’t know it, but I had spent all of last night thinking about her after that kiss and accidentally slept in.

FinallyI got to kiss those pretty, soft lips. They were so damn perfect; exactly how I had imagined. And now I just wanted more of her. It would have been nice to kiss her in other places. That smooth neck. Her soft thighs. Or even better, in between them. That would have been so fucking nice…

But the best thing was that she agreed to be mine. Mine, mine, mine. She didn’t trust me the first time we laid eyes on each other. Hell, she seemed to hate me a tiny bit. Maybe more than a tiny bit, really.

We were past that, though. Things were changing slowly and I was okay with that, because I wasn’t going to rush Daisy with anything. Getting her to trust me, to see me for who I really was, had been hard. It meant everything to me that she was giving me a chance. I wasn’t going to fuck that up. I’d show her how good I’d be for her and to her. Daisy deserved the best and I was so ready to give that to her.

After I did what I was about to do.

I was a man on a mission, walking with quick strides on to the ice. My eyes narrowed once I started skating, taking in the sight of the game that had already started without me.

That was to be expected. Early morning practices meant getting split up into two teams, and today I was dressed up in our away jerseys. The bright red material meant I was on the opposing side of the guy whose ass I was about to kick. I watched Asher as he glided along the ice. Fucking asshole.

“Wentworth, you’re late!” Murph screamed at me, his back up against the boards. “Get started already!”

“On it, Murph.” I did what he said, moving further along the ice. I didn’t come to play. I came to make sure Asher knew to never fuck with Daisy again.

The rest of the guys didn’t seem to notice what I was doing, that I was simply skating along the ice, ready and aimed at one person and one person only. Asher was on the other side of the ice near the boards, and anger roared through me as I imagined him and Daisy back in school. Him cornering her. Him making fun of her stutter. Him making her cry.

Fuck him and every asshole who ever made her feel like she wasn’t enough.

I leaped at him before I could control myself. My hands were on his jersey, pushing him right up against the boards. He dropped his stick and it was a perfect opportunity for me to slam a fist to his jaw. I heard a whistle in the background, but that didn’t stop me as I punched Asher again and again, my balled up fist aimed at his nose then his jaw then his eyes. My goal was to destroy every single part of him.

“Hey, what the hell are you doing over there?” Murph screamed out.

No one was coming to Asher’s rescue. Not yet. I got him on the ice, keeping him there as I got back to work. Asher was a strong guy but he had nothing on me. The look of complete pain on his face confirmed that fact.

“You fucking stay away from her!” I spat at him. “You keep that big fucking mouth shut and you don’t fucking go near her again!”

Asher was bleeding, the drops of red standing out against the white ice below us. Asher was groaning, his eyes wide and filled with fear as my fist connected with his jaw again. Maybe I was going overboard. But I wanted him to feel whatever pain Daisy felt when he put her down. No. I wanted him to feel worse.

“Don’t you even fucking think about going near Daisy again,” I muttered into Asher’s ear. “Keep the fuck away from her, or I’m doing this again. And next time I’ll make sure you won’t ever step foot on the fucking ice.”

“Enough of this!” Hudson was suddenly at my side. Tanner and Mason yanked me back, my skates rough on the ice as they pulled at me. “Why the hell do you two keep fighting?”

“I just gave him what he fucking deserves,” I grumbled, eyeing Asher carefully.

“Jesus Christ, Evan.” Murph rolled his eyes at me before kneeling next to the still groaning Asher. “What the hell is going on in that head, huh? You’re supposed to fight the other team. Not your fucking teammates.”

“I told you he fucking deserved it, didn’t I?” I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

“Alright, get off the fucking ice!” Murph pointed to the side. “Go to the goddamn locker room. Trust me, I’m not done with you yet, so don’t even think about leaving. You think you’re playing this week’s game? Think again.”

“Whatever.” I yanked Tanner’s and Mason’s hands off of me, giving Asher one last glare before I skated off the ice and walked to the locker room. It didn’t take a lot to piss Murph off. But it was worth it, because I couldn’t get that look of pain that had been on Daisy’s face out of my mind.

Ripping off my skates, I quickly pulled my gear off and slipped on a T-shirt. Murph was at the door not too long later, his head shaking in disapproval at me.

“What. The hell. Was that?” he asked.

“What was what?”

“Don’t play dumb, kid!”

“He’s lucky that’s all I did!” I screamed at Murph. “He’s lucky I didn’t rip his fucking head off! What the fuck was I supposed to do?”

“What’s going on with you two? Hudson told me about your little fight the other day too.” Murph threw his hands up. “You two have drama now or something? If so, spit it out so I can deal with it.”

I stuffed my gear into my duffel bag to keep myself busy. I felt an urge to go back out there and beat Asher’s head in some more. “He fucked up and someone needed to teach him a lesson. I had no problem stepping up and being the one to make him learn.”
