I ran a hand through my hair. “But my suspension is over. I gotta get ready. I swear to God if you’re dragging this thing out…”

“You’re playing tonight. Relax.” Murph held a hand up. “But we need to talk about what happened with you and Asher.”

I snorted. “No, we don’t.”

“Yes, we do.”

“I kicked his ass because he’s an asshole. That’s the whole story. There’s nothing else to talk about.”

“You two need to talk this shit out,” Murph said. “We need to work as ateam, remember? You’re not the only one on the Wolverines, Wentworth. My office. Now. Asher’s in there too.”

Murph walked away and I rolled my eyes. We didn’t need to talk. No discussion was necessary. But Murph wasn’t going to let it go.

“Someone’s in trouble,” Tanner said with a little chuckle next to me.

I punched his arm. “Shut up.”

Leaving all my gear in the locker room, I quickly made my way to Murph’s office. All I wanted to do was get our stupid, little talk over with. The first thing I saw when I got into the cramped room was Asher looking over his shoulder at me. His eyes narrowed, a few light bruises still there on his face. Nice. That meant I had punched him good and hard.

“Alright, sit down.” Murph gestured at the empty chair in front of his desk – the one right next to Asher. “This won’t take long. But whatever issues you two have with each other needs to be addressed already. Asher is also starting tonight, by the way.”

“You set that up on purpose?” I asked, slumping down in the chair. I didn’t want to be in the same room as Asher, let alone sit next to him. Especially since there was barely any space between us. I was pretty sure Murph had turned an old closet into his office when he started at UWO.

“Asher had a concussion thanks to what you did to him the other day,” Murph told me. “As of yesterday, he’s been cleared to play.”

“He shouldn’t be playing at all.”

“You’re an idiot.” Asher shook his head.

“You want me to hit you again?” I muttered, keeping my eyes in front of me.

“Why did you do it?” asked Murph. “Apparently this was all over some girl?”

“I didn’t like the way he was treating my girlfriend,” I answered, my voice loud and clear.

Asher scoffed. “Girlfriend?”

My head turned to him. “You got a problem with that?”

“You two aretogethernow? Seriously?”

“What, are you in fucking high school or something? Is this the most exciting piece of gossip you heard all week or what?”

“What the hell did she tell you?” Asher’s eyes went wide. “Whatever she told you is bullshit. Whatever the hell came out of her mouth is a lie and—”

“You want me to kick your ass again?” I asked lowly. “Because I won’t hesitate to fucking do it. And this time you’ll be out for the whole fucking season.”

“Enough!” Murph slammed his hands to his desk. “You two were friends a few weeks ago. What the hell went wrong?”

“Ask him,” said Asher. “Looks like someone’s pussy-whipped.”

“Yeah, and?” I snapped.

“She’s got you acting like a fucking idiot, Evan.”

“I would have kicked your ass whether I was with her or not. She told me what you fucking did to her.”

Asher looked at me with fear in his eyes. “She’s a liar.”
