“That mixer’s tonight, right?” asked Hudson, running a hand through his dark hair.
Damn, I had forgotten about that. Gamma Alpha Iota and Gamma Theta always had a mixer before the semester got too busy and we were all stuck with too much work to do. Trust Hudson to be up to date on school events – and he wasn’t even a brother.
Asher groaned. “Yeah. It is.”
“Isn’t your girlfriend organizing it this year?” asked Hudson.
“Girlfriend?” I repeated the word with a grin. If Hudson was talking about Brie…
“Brie isn’t my girlfriend,” Asher said. “She’s just a girl that I fuck.”
“You might wanna tell her that,” I said, shaking my head. “Don’t think she knows.”
Asher just shrugged at me. “It’s not my fault she doesn’t know what we are. Not like I plan on marrying her or anything.”
“I’d marry her,” Mason – one of our defensemen – piped up, his back up against the lockers. “I like ‘em mean.”
“You’re an idiot.” Asher rolled his eyes before looking at me. “You better come to this thing, by the way. She keeps reminding me to tell you to show up.”
That made sense. Brie could get a little flirty with me. When we first met last year, she had been more than a little obvious about wanting to hook up. But Brie hadn’t been my type. She still wasn’t. Her and Asher seemed to get along okay with their “just fucking” situation, though – so she was all his. That was fine with me.
“Are you going?” I nodded over at Tanner on the close by bench. He was another Gamma Alpha Iota brother along with me, Asher and Colton, our left wing.
Our goalie shoved his hands through his long hair, pushing the dark strands back. “Nah. Can’t make it. Weather’s gonna be top notch tonight. I’ll be busy.”
“Doing?” wondered Mason.
But I already knew the answer to that. Most guys did. Our tendy was also our resident freak.
“It’s a perfect night for a UFO sighting.” Tanner rubbed his tattooed hands together. Seemed like he got more over the summer. “Anyone wanna join me?”
“No,” the four of us said at the same time.
Tanner shrugged, focusing back on his bag. “Your loss.”
Fucking goalies…
“Do I have to go?” I mumbled. I didn’t mind a good party, especially after the draining practice session. But being around Brie could get annoying.
“She’s gonna give me shit if you don’t come. And then I’ll give you shit. Either way, I want a different girl in my lap for every party I go to tonight,” Asher said.
Hudson shook his head. “You already busy with the college girls this semester, Callaway?”
“Yup. Can’t get enough of ‘em.”
“Just be on time for practice next Monday, okay?” Hudson asked, voice loud and clear.
I nodded at him, watching as he went up to the other boys, probably making sure they wouldn’t forget about practice either. Hudson was almost always in captain mode.
“But what about you?” Asher asked. “What happened to fucking that blonde at that party last week? Did you go celibate over the break or something?”
I lifted up my eyebrows, trying to remember who he was talking about. My entire focus had been on Daisy. On her big eyes and sweet voice. I wanted to talk to her that night. Maybe get to know her and find out more about her than just her name. She didn’t seem interested in the slightest, though.
“What’s the deal with Daisy?” I asked Asher, ignoring his questions.
He groaned loudly. “Don’t fucking remind me. I almost forgot that she’s here.”
“I talked to her the other night during the party. For like a minute… Before she ran away from me. Again.” I let my voice wander off, trying to ignore the hurt I had felt during that conversation. She wanted me to get away from her and I didn’t wanna push her. But damn, she had really looked at me like she hated me.
