“Historical Literature. And you never concentrate in class, so it won’t be so bad.”
Tanner kept a hand on my shoulder, moving me further and further away from where Daisy had been. He was guiding me to class since I was just going through the motions.
“Did you hear about your friend?” Tanner asked.
I frowned. “Who?”
“Asher.”
“He’s not my friend,” I quickly said.
Tanner held his hands up. “Okay, that was sarcasm. Calm down. And I take it you haven’t heard what happened to him after you nearly killed him?”
“You think if I told Daisy I nearly killed him that she’d take me back?”
“No.”
“Fuck.”
“I know, man.” Evan nudged me. “Violence isn’t always the way to a girl’s heart. Tough one, huh? But Asher’s still in hospital. You fucked him up pretty bad.”
My head turned to look at Tanner. “Good.”
“Well, I just wanted you to know that you don’t have to worry about his daddy trying to sue you or anything. If you’re worried about that at all, I mean…”
“Not even a little bit. I don’t care about any of that shit. Not when… Not when I can’t stop thinking about Daisy.” My head kept replaying the vision of her heartbroken face in my head over and over again. My brain was rightfully trying to punish me for what I had done. “What happened after we left? Didn’t Colton rat on me or something?”
Tanner snorted next to me. “Nah. Told me he was scared you’d do the same thing to him if he did that. I think you’re good.”
Entering the English building, me and Tanner slowly made our way up the stairs to our room. “Well, Asher’s got a big mouth and can’t keep it shut, so he’ll probably tell everyone what I did.”
“No, that’s what I was trying to tell you,” Tanner said, his voice filled with joy. “You scared the shit outta him so bad that apparently he didn’t tell the doctors that you were the one who got him. Colton said that Asher told everyone that he just got jumped at the club.”
“He’s lucky I didn’t kill him that night.”
“I’m sure he’s thankful too,” chuckled Tanner. “You scared him so good he dropped out.”
My eyebrows raised as I stopped in my tracks. “He’s gone?”
“Colton told me he just checked out. Dude’s done with this school. Didn’t you see his room? It’s empty.”
“No. I’ve been avoiding him. I don’t wanna see his fucking face.”
Tanner snorted. “Trust me, he doesn’t wanna see yours either.”
I said nothing. It looked like I had gotten through to Asher and that I had scared him good. Hopefully he felt that for the rest of his life.
Moving into the classroom, I took a seat next to Tanner and slumped down in my chair. I just felt more and more miserable as time went on, but I only had myself to blame for that. It was easy to get mad at Asher, but I was the idiot who bought into his stupid lies.
I had earned every last bit of misery I was feeling.
Chapter 43
DAISY
I left Professor Ross’ class fully ready to embrace the upcoming weekend. I was determined to make something out of my time off. Leena had suggested pizza, movies, and more pizza in the morning. I had told her that the idea sounded perfect.
Moving through the busy hallway, I was fully focused on deciding between getting a Hawaiian or a cheese pizza when Brie stepped in front of me. Arms crossed over her chest, she shook her head at me.
