I emerged from the kitchen with their plates. I then went back to grab mine along with the iced tea I had made. It was a powder mix, so I simply added water. Once we were all seated, Jacob prayed over the food. I was too nervous to eat, so I waited for them to try the food first. When they both continued to eat, I realized it must have been good.

“This is some of the best spaghetti I’ve ever had,” Jacob stated as he winked at me.

“I helped, Daddy,” Jada proudly declared.

After dinner and dessert, Jacob went to get Jada ready for bed.

“No. I want Mommy to put me to bed,” she whined.

I looked around and realized she meant me. Jada walked over to me and pulled me toward her bedroom. I helped Jada grab her pajamas. She changed and then went to brush her teeth.

“Mommy, can you read me a book?” she asked.

I nodded. I was too afraid to open my mouth. If I were to say anything, I might cry. Jada had called me Mommy not once but twice. I grabbed the book she held out and read until she fell asleep. Jada looked so peaceful. I kissed her forehead then turned to leave her room. Jacob stood in her doorway with asmile on his face. We left her room and softly closed the door behind us.

“Did you hear her call me Mommy?” I asked as my voice cracked.

“I did,” he confirmed.

“Did you know about this?” I asked.

“On our way to your office earlier, she mentioned it to me. We talked about what makes someone a mom. After I explained it to her, Jada asked if she could call you Mom. I told her if it felt right for her, she could. That was all her,” he assured me.

Jacob pulled me in for a hug and whispered in my ear, “Let’s go to bed so we can work on expanding our family, love.”

Two YearsLater

Somewhere in the Middle of the South of France

Today was a perfect day to sail on a yacht surrounded by family. Life hadn’t been perfect, but it was damn near close. Love Faith just held its first fashion show in Paris. The line expanded to include menswear and children’s clothing. Louisa was officially my head designer. She earned the position after all the work she continued to pour into Love Faith. While I focused on the private clients she helped with the day-to-day operations. My list of private clients grew, but Trigga remained one of my VIPs. In addition to him, I added some actors and singers to my lineup.

The fashion show was all the rave here in Paris and back home. All day, I looked at every fashion blog and soaked in all the positive feedback. Our spring and summer resort looks had everyone reaching out to us. All the business would have to wait until after our vacation. I was on cloud nine, and nothing could stop this feeling.

I looked over at my family and smiled. Jacob and I were celebrating our two-year wedding anniversary. We had a quickie wedding two years ago surrounded by family at the house. I found out I was pregnant, and Jacob wanted me to have his last name. Unfortunately, that pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage. After that loss, Jacob came with me to meet Dr. Carter. Jacob gave his sperm to fertilize my previously frozen eggs. From that batch, we had three embryos that we did genetic screening on prior to the transfer. I wanted to make sure we would only transfer normal embryos.

After a successful transfer, I gave birth to our son Jayden a year ago. Jada adored her little brother. She was very overprotective of him. Not long after we got married, I officially adopted Jada. Jacob’s career took off as well. He was booked and busy all the time. Sometimes, the kids and I would travel to wherever he was filming. This time around, the family followed me to France for my fashion show.

“How does it feel to finally check off all your boxes?” Imani asked.

I looked over at her and Milani and smiled. “I’m just glad I never gave up. When times were dark, I always remembered Mom telling me to keep the faith. While my life isn’t perfect, I wouldn’t trade my family for anything in this world,” I proclaimed.

“A toast to you, our favorite Aquarius. Little Miss Check Off All My Boxes has brought her dream life to fruition,” Milani said as she raised her glass.

“I’ll toast to that, but I also have to salute you two. Imani, you have been doing some heavy lifting in your big sister role since we lost Mom ten years ago. Between you and Milani, if you guys didn’t love on me, I would probably still be stuck in that loveless marriage with what’s his face. So, cheers to you both, my unwavering support system,” I professed as my eyes watered.

“Aww, hell. You’re trying to have our makeup running,” Imani said as we shared a laugh.

The clear blue water and sunny skies were perfect for today. I looked over at Jacob, who held our son while chatting with his mother. Jada was under her grandmother, never too far from her dad. I got up to join them, leaving Milani and Imani to finish enjoying their drinks.

I kissed Jacob and Jayden on their cheeks when I reached them.

“Babe, how much longer do we have the yacht for?” I asked.

“It’s taking us to the private island. It shouldn’t be more than another hour or so,” Jacob replied.

“Did you ever think this would be our life? This is crazy, isn’t it?” I asked.

“Nothing crazy about us finding our way to each other, love. This feels so right. It could only be destiny,” he assured me.
