Me:

Hey, boo!

Milani:

Hey girl, what’s going on?

Me:

I need a favor. Can you reach out to the owner of the house you rented for next week? I want to head over there today if I can.

Milani:

Sure, is everything okay?

Me:

Yeah. My husband can’t seem to find his way home, so I want to show him what it feels like to wake up alone.

Milani:

I know that’s right. Give me an hour to see what I can do for you.

Me:

Thank you!

With that out of the way, I went to my closet to pack. My only problem was that I always overpacked. The Aquarian in me liked to stand out, so I needed options when it came to my outfits and accessories. Without Mason to carry my bags, I had to be mindful. My hope was that Mason would see some of my things gone and realize he had me messed up. The conversation with Imani last night really stirred up something in me. For too long, I’d played along as the supportive wife. Mason’s lack of support for me was truly hurtful.

As I filled up the second bag, my phone alerted me to a message. I picked up the phone and opened my thread with Milani.

Milani:

The owners are out of town, so the place is free. I’m headed to pick up the key from their property manager. Head over whenever you’re ready.

Me:

I can’t thank you enough.

Milani:

You know I got you, boo. See you soon.

A sigh of relief swept over me. Although I was only packing for several days, something about this felt final. I didn’t know how to explain the feeling. After double and triple-checking that I had everything, I headed into the bathroom to brush my teeth and shower. Before I left the house, I left Mason a note on the nightstand.

Mason,

I’m following your lead and taking some time for myself. Whenever you are ready to talk, I’ll be ready.

Love,

Faith

The cab pulled in front of the beautiful, recently constructed building on June Street. I lived in the city, so the tall buildings didn’t impress me. However, this particular building did so as ittook up the entire block. As I grabbed my bags and exited the cab, I took in the well-maintained, tree-lined street. It appeared to be a quiet neighborhood, which I would appreciate. Even with the shops and restaurants that occupied the ground floor, it was quiet.

After I had situated the heavy duffel bags on each shoulder, I went through the revolving door to enter the building. Once inside the lobby, Milani was there to greet me.

“Hey, girl. So what do you think of the neighborhood?”
