She let go and watched as Anna stood up, assisting her dad to his feet.
Katherine held the door open for them. Harry went through ahead of his daughter.
“Are you okay, Anna? You look really stressed.” Katherine preferred the word “stressed” to broken, although the latter was more fitting.
“One of my trainees quit, which means an increase in my workload. I find myself alone again.”
Katherine pulled her lips to one side and gave Anna a look that said she was sorry. She had nothing to say that wasn’t sorry, and she didn’t want to upset Anna by repeating it verbally.
Anna nodded back to say she understood. She turned to walk away, but Katherine touched her arm.
“Anna, I hate to mention it again, but please consider a home. It’s for his safety, as he is becomingly increasingly unsteady. Better a week too soon than a minute too late. At least talk to him about it.”
Anna looked down at her arm.
Katherine withdrew her hand.
“Thank you, doctor.” Anna turned and joined Harry.
Katherine closed the door and returned to her seat. It could have gone worse, but after seeing Anna looking stressed again, she couldn’t help but worry about her.
Maybe she should just throw in the towel and give up her licence. She had come to realise Anna was someone she could happily grow old with. She didn’t really need to work, but she did enjoy helping others. Giving it all up would be a big step. And then there was Harry. He was the most important person in Anna’s life, and Anna was the most important person in hers. His health and wellbeing had to come first, and if Anna only entrusted her with that job, then that would be her role to carry out to the best of her abilities.
