Katherine suddenly stopped and retraced her steps to Anna.
“I need to apologise for my erratic behaviour the other night.”
Anna looked at her blankly.
“The headache,” Katherine reminded her.
“Oh, the headache.” Anna grinned.
“I’m sorry, I got a little… spooked.” Katherine retreated backwards along the path.
“So, are you saying you are enraptured?”
Katherine hesitated. “I might be.” The corners of her mouth turned up. “But I do have a past.”
“I get that. I’m here if and when you’re ready to tell me.”
Katherine nodded. “Thanks.”
She turned again and was away. Anna felt every step of distance that was between them.
