Chapter 12
It had taken Katherine a good fifteen minutes to revive herself after her time with Anna. She looked at her watch and realised she needed to get her skates on if her plan was to come together in time.
She was breathless by the time she arrived to collect Harry and was surprised to find him ready and waiting with his shoes on, although with his laces untied.
“As promised, a new mode of transport for you.” She led him out to the front garden and showed him a wheelchair.
“Great, doc. Let’s get going.”
Katherine locked up and pushed him down the high street to the abbey. She pushed him straight past the visitor centre; one of the benefits of a lifetime pass was that you could take someone else in with you for free. They made their way to the tour point where Anna was already waiting.
“Look, Anna,” Harry crowed. “I’ve got myself a new set of wheels and found myself a rather pretty chauffeur!”
“What are you two doing here?” Anna leaned down to kiss her dad.
“Do I get one of those?” Katherine turned her head and presented her cheek to Anna.
Anna turned Katherine’s head to face her and kissed her square on the lips.
“Even better.” Katherine blushed.
“That’s for getting him into one of those.” Anna nodded at the wheelchair. “He’s always refused before.”
“Harry wanted to see your tour, so I thought it might be the solution.”
“I wondered what you were up to, and you were right; there is nowhere more interesting to be, at least in Nunswick.”
Anna’s tour was even better than Katherine remembered from the walkthrough. Harry was entranced, just like everyone else. It was nice to watch people’s faces and see how they responded to Anna, rather than listening intently to what Anna was saying.
At the end of the tour, Katherine and Harry watched in awe as each visitor personally thanked Anna.
“The doc was right: you are brilliant,” Harry said when they were finally alone.
Anna blushed. “Go on, get the old man home.”
“Harry is coming back to mine,” Katherine informed her.
“Are you abducting my father?”
“No, you’re more than welcome to join. Actually I’m going to have to insist.”
“There’s that bossy doctor again.”
Katherine winked at her. “You like her, don’t you?”
“I might.” Anna’s face twisted around a smile. “I’ll pop home for a shower and change first.”
“Okay, we’re having a cinema night, so wear something comfy. I’ll have dinner ready.”
Anna exhaled. “Are you even real?”
Katherine leaned forward and kissed Anna firmly on the lips. “Real enough.”
“Come on, you two, stop flirting,” Harry said. “There’s only so much I can listen to, especially if one of them is my daughter.”
“Dad!”
“Come on then.” Katherine pushed the wheelchair along the path. “See you later, Anna.”
