“Thanks,” Katherine said, taking it.

Anna started to come around.

“What happened?” Anna asked, blinking at the sun that was directly in her eyes. “Oh, Dr Atkinson.”

“It’s Katherine, remember?” she said, helping Anna sit up. “You fainted. Are you diabetic?”

Anna shook her head and tried to get up. “Sorry, how embarrassing,”

“Not at all, and please sit for a minute. Have you eaten today?”

“No, I haven’t had time yet.”

“Here, eat this and then we’ll try getting you up.” Katherine passed her the chocolate bar.

“Thanks,” Anna replied, stripping the chocolate of its wrapper. The bar disappeared in seconds and the colour returned to her face.

“It’s likely your blood sugar dropped, but I’d like you to make an appointment with your doctor to make sure.”

A member of staff made their way over to them at a trot.

“Hi, I’m Carrie, Anna’s supervisor,” she said. “I can take it from here; I’m a first aider.”

“Katherine’s a doctor,” Anna informed Carrie.

“Oh, right, good job you were here then,” Carrie said, looking relieved and taking a step back.

“Definitely, she caught her,” Rebecca piped up.

Anna looked up at Katherine. “Thanks.”

“I would say, ‘Any time,’ but please, no repeat performances. I couldn’t follow you around all day; I would never keep up.”

A smile danced on Anna’s lips.

Annoyingly, Katherine knew that Rebecca was right. Anna was her type.

She turned to Carrie. “Please make sure she books an appointment with her doctor as soon as possible and that she attends.”

“I will,” Carrie assured her, helping Anna up from the ground.

“And make sure she eats something,” Katherine added firmly.

Carrie nodded as she walked Anna back to the visitor centre.

Rebecca put her arm around Katherine.

“Come on, let’s get back and open a bottle of wine. I think you deserve it.”

Katherine nodded her agreement as she looked over at Anna. She knew she’d need to keep her eyes fixed on her; it would be an easy task. The hard task would be keeping them off her.

Rebecca looked at the fence marking the boundary between the abbey and Katherine’s house. “Shame you haven’t got a gate. A shortcut always comes in handy, especially when a damsel needs rescuing.”

Katherine chuckled. “Hopefully she will have learned a lesson from this, but I fear it’s unlikely.”
