Anna grinned. “You couldn’t have done that quicker if you’d tried.”

“Well, I didn’t want you to change your mind.”

“Oh, there’s no fear of that,” Anna replied, her grin lifting into a smile. She was sure Katherine was blushing. It took all her willpower not to throw herself across the bath onto Katherine and her beautiful body. Even naked she had an air of confidence. Anna couldn’t believe she was all hers for the taking.

They shifted their legs to make themselves comfortable, giving each other little smirks as they touched.

“You know earlier, how I mentioned my future and what I’m going to do?” Katherine asked. “Well, before I finalise anything, I want to run it past you first.”

“Good.” Anna smirked at her, and Katherine narrowed her eyes in return.

“Well, in addition to starting some community classes, which I’m going to hold in the new barn — ”

“At the abbey?” Anna interrupted.

“Yes.”

Anna’s eyes lit up. “Margaret showed me the plans; it looks like it will be an amazing space for the abbey and the community.”

“I agree. Margaret mentioned something else to me when I discussed my ideas with her. One of the trustees is stepping down, and she’d like me to take over.”

Anna sat forward. “Wow.”

“Hmm.”

“Would this be instead of being a doctor?”

Katherine twisted her lips and nodded. “Yes, I think it would, but I have a year to decide for certain. The way they set the trust up allows them to pay their trustees, so I would get a salary from it.”

“Okay, this is sounding too good to be true. What’s the catch?”

“Investment.”

“Ahh. A large investment?” Anna questioned.

“Sizeable but affordable. As you know, my mother left me with a sizable sum, but what I haven’t told you is Becks made a case against the driver that killed Helena. This added substantially to the sum. I haven’t touched any of it. I wanted to do something worthwhile with it, use it to bring enjoyment and pleasure to others.”

Anna nodded her agreement. “What would you be doing in return for the salary?”

“Overseeing the development and management of the new barn.”

Anna frowned. “Are you qualified for that?”

“I’ve run urgent treatment centres. I think a medieval barn could be considered trivial compared to that.”

Anna nodded. “Agreed. What does Rebecca say to all this? I assume you’ll need her permission.”

“I haven’t mentioned it yet. I thought we could decide together and then let her know.”

“If this is what you want, then we’ll make it work.”

Katherine placed her glass on the side of the bath and shifted herself onto her knees between Anna’s legs. The water lapped at her breasts, and her nipples cut through the bubbles as she closed in on Anna. She took the glass from Anna’s hand and leaned back to place it with hers. Anna’s heart pounded at the view this presented.

As Katherine approached her again, Anna reached out to caress both her breasts. Katherine writhed at her touch and breathed in deeply. She rested her arms on the sides of the bath and lowered herself to meet Anna’s face, her blue eyes boring deep into hers.

“I love you, Anna Walker.”

Anna pushed her lips together to moisten them.

“I love you too…” Anna’s eyes flashed sideways and then back to Katherine. “Kat?”

Katherine’s smile told Anna she had chosen wisely, and the pace of her breath quickened. Anna could feel the warmth of it against her cool, wet skin. Anna inhaled slowly to control her own spiralling breath.

“Only those very close to me get to call me that.”

Anna looked at the space between their bodies. “Admittedly, we could be closer.”

Katherine lowered her body onto Anna’s, letting her legs slide back. Her breasts crushed themselves against Anna’s. Their eyes locked, noses touched, and their lips, millimetres apart, pressed together firmly.
