Maddox groaned.
“That marker was just where we all want to be.”
I slid Luc’s shirt aside and drew the best little bunny over his heart. When he looked down at it and his whole face shiftedinto something so warm and delicious I nearly melted. I held my breath and waited for him to look at me again.
“Have the assistant you’ve never slept with schedule us with Dominic’s tattoo guy.” He slid his hand down to my ass and slapped it. “I want you naked and on your knees as soon as we walk through the door tonight.”
I shuddered.
“Yes, sir.”
“Maybe we should go home now.” He looked like a man on the edge.
I twisted away from him and rushed around to grab my dress. I pulled it on and then edged around the three of them to get to my flowers. “
No. I have work to do. Did you see what Jace got me? I need string or ribbon, though. Or vases. Do you think there are any vases around here in a storage room or something? I want to make bouquets for people. They didn’t really hear me scream, did they?”
Luc growled.
“She’d rather play with flowers than us. I’m not sure if I should be insulted or not. And, yes, some of those people out there definitely heard you scream, little bunny. They know if they say a word, though, they’ll be fired before the end of the day.”
Jace grunted.
“Better they know who you scream for now.”
CHAPTER 36
Luc
I stared out of my office at the scene happening at my assistant’s desk. The old woman I’d never once seen smile was gushing over Harley. Patty was a warrior for me and she’d been with the company since before I’d taken over but she’d never even pretended to like me. I respected her more for it, if I was being honest. She’d melted, though, the moment Harley came up to her with a shy smile and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Leaning in my doorway I stared at Harley and wondered how I hadn’t noticed how fucking drab life was before her. She’d won over everyone on the floor with her sweetness and warmth. I’d watched closely at first, hyper-focused on every reaction from my employees, vigilant in making sure no one treated her poorly. I should’ve known Harley could handle herself. Even with pink cheeks she charmed even the hardest of hardasses. Everyone but Jace’s assistant, anyway, but I had a feeling the woman wouldn’t last long if she scowled at Harley again.
I pulled out my phone and shot a text to my lead IT guy. My gut was tweaked about Andrea and if I was right, she’d be gone long before Harley’s precious flowers started to wilt.
Harley smiled at me over her shoulder and then ducked her head as her cheeks burned. She leaned closer to Patty and whispered.
“How do you handle how intense he is?”
Patty cut me a look.
“I’m not affected by a pretty face, honey. Plus, he knows if he gets all growly at me I’ll walk and this company would burn to the ground without me.”
I looked down at my shoes to try to hide my grin. She wasn’t wrong. I needed Patty more than I needed even Maddox or Jace in the office. She was more useful than either of them.
Harley laughed.
“You know what they say. Behind every powerful man is a smarter woman plotting his murder.”
“Oh?” I couldn’t stay away for a second longer. I snagged the back of her dress and pulled her into my arms. “Do I need to sleep with one eye open, little bunny?”
Patty wagged her finger at me.
“Even if she is, you’d better just let her. I like her.”
Harley smirked up at me.
“Ha. Patty’s on my side.”
