“You’ll see. Patience is a virtue, little bunny.”

“You’re showing your age, grandpa.” She couldn’t even finish her sentence before she cackled.

CHAPTER 37

Harley

I turned in a circle with my mouth hanging open. Everywhere I looked things got better and better. Turning back to Luc, I threw my arms around him and hugged him tight. “This is the best! I’m so excited! I’ll just get a few things, though. Okay? Just like two things. I mean, it’s so early…”

Luc wrapped his arms around me and smiled. “The baby’s going to need a lot of things, little bunny.”

I turned in his arms so my back was pressed to his front. He’d brought me to a boutique store which sold everything and anything a baby could ever need. My eyes moved from one thing to another so quickly I was barely able to process what I was seeing before I was on to the next thing. I gripped Luc’s hand that was resting on my belly. “Maybe three of four things…”

I’d never given myself the space or time to daydream about a family. It didn’t seem like it was something that was going to happen for a very long time, if at all. I’d never considered baby furniture. Our baby would need a nursery. They’d need clothes! And a bassinet!

“Go on, baby. Take the scanner and add everything you want. They’ll deliver everything in the morning.” Luc pressed the tiny scanner into my palm and nodded towards the cribs. “Do you have any ideas for what you want?”

I hurried over and ran my hand over a polished wooden crib that looked like the Ferrari of cribs. “No ideas. I just…”

“What?”

I looked up at him and let out a watery laugh.

“We’re having a baby.”

He leaned down and kissed me.

“We are. And I’ve never been more thankful for anything in my life, Harley. Between you and this baby I feel like the luckiest man in the world.”

“Even though you have to share me with Jace and Maddox?” It was something I worried about more and more as I got to know each of them individually. I could feel tension between them every so often and I was scared it was partially because of me.

He didn’t answer me right away and it made stomach acid threaten to come up my throat. Was I a problem for them? I’d just started to accept that maybe they did want to keep me around but if I was hurting their relationship, they—

“Hey. Stop.” He pulled my bottom lip free from my teeth and pulled me over to a bench off to the side of the store. “Whatever you’re thinking, it’s not that. Sharing you with Jace and Mad is the best thing the three of us have going for us. Honestly. This is the one area where we agree on things and can be a team.”

I frowned.

“I don’t get it.”

“Let’s shop first. When we leave here I’ll take you to a special place I like to visit and we can talk there.” He laughed at the pouty face I made. “I mean, I guess we could skip the shopping…since you don’t want to spend any of my evil money, anyway.”

I growled and poked him in the chest.

“We’re spending some of it. Not a lot. Just like a tiny, little bit. Just enough to make sure the baby has some things it’s going to need.”

He didn’t call me on my shit, thankfully.

“Come on, then. If you don’t start picking things, I will. And do you know what kind of nursery I’d like?”

I cringed as he started pointing at things that made no sense together.

“No, no! I’ll handle it. You just keep me company. And I do think we should leave a few things for Jace and Maddox to help pick out. If you think they’d care to…”

“Oh, they’re going to want to fight me when they realize where I took you.” He saw me start to protest and pressed his fingerover my lips. “Just like I wanted to fight them when I walked in on you naked and covered in permanent marker earlier.”

I looked over at a crib mobile that was calling out to me, practically begging to be scanned.

“Okay. If you’re sure?”
