"They saw it." The entire navy had been gathered around Melham Island. The people on shore had surrendered, and then … he couldn't think on it. It had been horrible, the way Coryn had dragged his power from him. She'd drained every last person to unconsciousness and then she'd flooded the island with fire.

"But they don't know why."

"No." He hadn't dared tell Efren, even when he'd touched him without his gloves. They had been outside Coryn's reach, so far from any shore or ship that he'd felt safe.

"Tell them," Yvette said. "From our ships around Melham, it looked like you'd gone mad." She stood and pulled him off the floor. "Tell them tonight. They need to know how to shield against Coryn, especially your spectral weaver."

"I will."

He followed Yvette back toWildfire'smain deck, where Klaus and the children were playing with the kittens. They all looked happy. The five kittens were closer to cat-sized than Mewskers was, even after his growth spurts, but Vadim wouldn't trade their little furball for the world.

Klaus

Yvette finally returned to the deck with Vadim in tow. His eyes were bloodshot, but he still looked more relaxed than he had in a long time when he smiled at Klaus. He gave the playing kittens and the young weavers a wide berth as he circled around them to stand behind Klaus.

Klaus sighed when Vadim encircled his shoulders and kissed the side of his neck. "No," Vadim said. "We already have one."

"How is yours?" Yvette asked. "I was surprised to learn he accepted healing."

"You're welcome to come see him, but I don't think he wants to come back over here," Vadim said. "Too many bad memories."

"Do you still have a link with him?" Klaus whispered.

"No. Don't be ridiculous."

"You're still linked to me,"Klaus reminded him using only his mind.

"That's different. We had a life link."

"Hi!"Yvette's voice in Klaus's head startled him so badly he dropped the kitten he was holding. It darted across the deck to Lurvane, the ten-year-old water weaver Nola had rescued from the navy ship.

"Get out of my head." Vadim didn't sound angry about it, and Yvette laughed.

"Couldn't resist," she said. "You forgot to close the door on our mind link from earlier. You should always close them, unless you want Klaus to know your thoughts all the time." She held up her hands. "I'm out, I'm out."

Klaus frowned. Vadim could keep him out of his thoughts? No wonder they'd had so little communication, even when Klaus had practically begged Vadim to interrupt earlier. Luckily, Vadim had been on his way to the crate.

"You wanted me to interrupt you?"Vadim pressed closer to him, slotting his thickening cock along the crease of Klaus's pants.

"Always. Gods. That was fucking …"He didn't even have a word to describe it, so he left it at that. Amazing didn't cut it. Wonderful was too overused. Sensational sounded ridiculous. It was the best sex Klaus had ever had, and that was saying something.

Vadim kissed the back of his neck. "Ever?" he asked aloud.

"How do I block him from my mind?" he asked Yvette.

She grinned and shook her head. "He'll tell you, along with the rest of your ship. I don't know if seekers or mundane folk can, to be honest, but it's worth a try."

"You don't want to block me."Vadim stepped away and buttoned his coat. He still looked cold, but his hands were bare when he offered one to Klaus.

"Did she teach you to block Coryn?"

"Aye."Vadim was still a man of few words."Did you take the tour with Nola?"

"The tour was wonderful," Klaus said aloud. "Captain Nola said you want her to sail with us to Hearthstone."

"Aye. I didn't tell her why, though I think she suspects." He kissed Klaus's knuckles before letting him go and motioning for Yvette to follow him to the foredeck, where Captain Nola stood at the wheel. "I'll see you at dinner."
