I hold up a finger. “If you start using manners with me, I’ll really be thrown for a loop. Keep thepleasesilent. I know what you mean.”

And because it’s Torin, because he isn’t the type of man to do what he’s told, his grin goes wide and wicked. “Please, Ren.”

The metal is warm from being in his pocket.

“I made it because I want the world to know you’re mine.” When I stare at the necklace, he helps me loop it around my neck. “I’m fine sharing you but this shows the others. I have a claim.”

Okay, it’s cute. Loving.

And I feel really cared for. Maybe it will be easier than I thought to lean into this new wave of our relationship.

Then again…Andras is still out there. He’s got the other omegas—if they’re even still alive—and he’s gunning for us. He’ll destroy everything I care about so now isn’t the time to be loving and cared for and soft. Now is the time to get shit done and kick some ass along the way.

Torin grabs me by the back of the neck and pulls me forward, pressing his mouth to mine and stealing the breath from my lungs.

Mine. The word echoes through me, sent along the bond.

Mine, I send right back.

Poor Andras doesn’t stand a chance.

Chapter 16

Torin

Gods, she’s incredible. Strong. Unbreakable. And she choseme. Even after everything I’ve done and all the shit that’s gone wrong with us from the start.

My pulse hammers in my chest and my wolf growls, content and satiated for the moment.

I trail a hand down her spine in a slow glide, savoring the feel of her bare skin against mine. Water drips from the beams overhead and pats against the floor but neither of us moves. We’re tangled in the ruins of a dining table with chairs half-knocked over and the entire room soaked but steaming from the heat of what just happened.

I’m surprised we haven’t set the damn place on fire.

I let her unravel me. And I let my own stupid mind and ego convince me I was protecting her and that my sacrifice was an undeniable power. The more I killed myself, the safer Ren would be, the stronger the Steel Claws would become.

None of it’s true.

I drag her closer yet and absorb the sensation of my mate in my arms. All I feel isher. The bond between us is stronger than I could’ve ever imagined. I’m ready to take on the world by her side.

I’d die for her if it ever came down to it.

The door slams open behind us.

Hendrickson bursts into the dining hall, his boots skidding on the wet floor, eyes wild. One look at him and everything in me goes cold. The warmth of before shatters into a million cold pieces.

“Sir,” he pants, not caring about our nakedness. “You’re gonna want to hear this. Now.”

My body tenses, the alpha in me knowing immediately that something is very wrong. Ren moves off me and starts throwing on her clothes.

“What’s happening? Is everyone okay?” The words thread together with a growl.

I automatically sweep out a hand and push Ren behind me to protect her. Undeterred, she steps to my side, pinching me.

Hendrickson holds something out in his hand. The rectangular box is an old thing and mostly a mess of wires and metals and dials.

“A radio?” Ren blurts.

“Where did you—” I start.
