“I’m just happy to see you snap out of that funk. You really fucking scared me, Ally.”
“I know, baby. I’m so sorry. I’m gonna do whatever I can to get better, okay? I promise I’m not gonna give up anymore.”
“Please don’t,” she sobs. “I don’t want to be on this earth if I don’t have you next to me.”
“You won’t ever have to.” I pull back and kiss her hard. “I’m not going anywhere, baby. I promise.”
She nods, sniffing as she wipes at her eyes.
“I’ll be back, okay?”
She nods, and I give her one more kiss before leaving the room and heading back to mine. I find my phone on the table by my bed.
“Hey,” I say when the person on the other end answers. “Can you guys come to the hospital? We need to talk.”
“Are you sure?” Skyler asks, brows furrowed with concern.
I nod, sitting crossed-legged on my bed. “I am. I need to do this.”
Tyson blows out a breath. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
“I’m not going away forever,” I laugh. “But I do need to take a step back from this life. I don’t think I can mentally handle it anymore.”
“We want you to be happy and healthy. And if that means leaving the band and Hollywood altogether, then do it. We’ll be okay.”
“I want you to find a new singer,” I surprise them by saying.
“What?” Skyler shakes his head. “No fucking way.”
“Yes. Because you guys are amazing at what you do. You were born for this world. And I’d never ask you to give it up.”
“But...” Ryker tries to protest.
“Please? For me. I want to see you guys thrive. Just make sure whoever replaces me is a good person. Or we’re gonna have beef.”
They laugh, and for the next little while we talk. With every decision I make, I feel lighter. And by the time they leave, I know I made the right choice.
“Hey, you.” Liam greets, leaning against the door of my hospital room.
My eyes snap over to him.
I’m off the bed and flinging myself into his arms in the blink of an eye. “I’m so fucking glad you're okay.” Liam holds me tightly.
“I’m so fucking sorry for everything,” I apologize, breaking down all over again. The tears are welcomed, though. It’s a hell of a lot better than feeling like a numb robot.
“Don’t. Don’t you apologize.” He shakes his head.
“You have nothing to apologize for,” Nate says, stepping into the room.
“Nate,” I cry, my voice cracking. I throw myself into his arms, and he buries his face in my neck.
“You had me so fucking worried, Kitten. Never do that again. Please.”
“I won’t,” I promise. “I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get through this. Take whatever meds they want me to, talk towhoever they need me to talk to. I won’t hurt you guys anymore. I’ve done enough of that.”
“Shhh.” Liam hugs both of us. “We’re going to be right by your side no matter what.”
“We need to talk.” I look up at both of them. They look worried but nod.
