My eyes widen.
The bunny. The bunny I bought at the auction like a complete unhinged stalker just to be able to smell her.
Oh god. Kill me now. Please.
She’s going to think I’m crazy. A freak. She’s not going to want anything to do with me now. I’m going to lose her. This cannot be happening right now.
“Lulu,” she breathes out my name, looking over at me. “This is my bunny... the bunny I auctioned off for charity. I know this because here’s the little red heart that I sewed into the ear.” She shows me the heart, and mine stops.
“I–ah–I–” I break out into a cold sweat. My heart is beating so fast, I think I might pass out.
“Did you buy this?” she asks, voice softer now.
There’s no disgust in her tone, no amusement. She looks at me with wonder and curiosity.
“Maybe.” I look down, messing with my blankets, needing something to do with my hands as I refuse to look at her.
She moves, crawling across the bed until she’s stopping in front of me. “Lulu.” She lifts my chin, forcing me to look at her. “Why did you buy the bunny?”
I swallow hard, eyes flicking between hers. I should come up with a lie that makes me seem a little less crazy.
But I don’t want to lie to her. Lies only bring pain.
“Because I needed something of yours,” I whisper. “I only had this.” I lift my wrist, showing her the friendship bracelet she made me a long time ago. I’ve had to have some things done to preserve it, and there’s a few changes made so it could remain wearable, but it’s still the same bracelet for the most part.
“You kept it?” she whispers, taking my wrist as if it’s something precious.
“I never take it off,” I admit. “But it wasn’t enough. When I got the bunny, it had been years since I saw you last. I wanted something from who you were now. Knowing you were an Omega, I ah...” I try to look away from her, but she won’t let me. “I wanted to know what you smelled like,” I admit, feeling stupid as soon as the words leave my lips.
“You did?” she asks.
“I know. It’s stupid, and you probably think I’m some stalker. Hell, maybe I am. I’ve been following your career from the very beginning.”
“Well, if that makes you a stalker, then I guess I’m one too.”
“What do you mean?” My brows furrow.
“Soooo... I may have used my celebrity powers to make sure you had everything you needed while you were in the Omega Center.”
“What?” My eyes widen in shock.
“I know that was overstepping, but it’s all I could do. I wasn’t able to be there for you like I wanted to. Julia made my life hell and was determined to make sure you never came back into my life. But I couldn’t not do anything. I found a few loopholes that allowed me to help in some ways. I needed to make sure you were safe and taken care of. When Julia left my life, I wanted to go see you. But I saw you were starting something new and exciting, and I didn’t want to ruin that. You were just getting out of your nightmare with the trial, and I was about to start mine. I didn’t want to drag you down with me.”
“Ally...” my voice breaks, tears spilling down my cheeks.
She thought I forgot about her, and I thought she forgot about me. When in reality, we were each other’s obsession for many years.
In most cases, that might be cause for concern. But this one?
It has me more turned on than anything.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you,” I whisper, a few tears escaping, spilling down my cheeks.
“Then I guess we’re even, huh?” she asks, giving me a sad smile.
“Not even close.” I cup her cheeks. “I think we owe it to one another to show each other just how much we’ve missed one another.”
“How much we love each other.” Her eyes flick between mine.
