“Okay.” Richard walked away from the table.

Richard finished the last book and turned off the Kindle App, stupefied. It was just ten. It took him so long because he read the chapter on the reveal three times. Julien hadn’t come to get him at nine. He’s waiting for me to go down. All the signs were there, and I missed them; the tether, an increase in my appetite, the instant attraction, the man is a werewolf, and I’m his Mate. No wonder they all hang out together. I’ve got to call Julio. I promised I’d call him.

Furtively he dialed. Julio picked up on the first ring. “Hi Richard, I knew you couldn’t resist a good book.” His friend was laughing at him.

“It’s all true, isn’t it? Are you a wolf now, too?”

“No, silly, you have to be born a loup garou. Now you should go get Julien so he can call Armand and the others. This is where you get to pay Armand back for dragging you all over Manhattan and running roughshod over your sensibilities. Just make sure you call him Alpha because he isThe Alphaand Sean isThe Alpha Mate. Council matings are official business. Julien is Alpha Bellaire, and Etienne is Alpha Daurensbourg. I’m Alpha Mate Julio Reyes-Daurensbourg, and I’ve never been happier in my life.”

“I just go down there and knock on the door?”

“Sort of… Are you pissed?”

“No, I don’t think so. I’ve always wanted Jason Jones’ stories to be real, and now I know they are. Julien is my Mate, that’s why I felt an instant affinity.”

“Call him on the Mate Link. You just talk to him in your mind. It’s neat. He’ll come running. Leave the phone on speaker.”

“You’re a voyeur.” Richard’s eyebrows rose with his amusement.

“Yep. I love happy endings. A few weeks ago, I was a cynic. Now I’m a sap. Go ahead, call him.”

Julien, it’s me. I know.Richard waited a minute then heard some noise.

“Is the elevator on its way up?”

“Yeah, I think it is.” Richard paced the carpet.

“Don’t you dare hang up on me,” Julio squeaked.

Richard got huffy. “I promised I wouldn’t.”

“Make him show you his wolf and make him get the rest of them out of bed. Why should you let them sleep in? I didn’t.”

“I hear the elevator door.” A note of panic crept into Richard’s voice. “What do I do?”

“Let him take the lead and don’t you dare hang up.”

Julien stood at the door of his room shaking. “May I come in?”

Richard nodded and sat down on the down-stuffed, loose-pillowed loveseat.

Julien sat next to him. “Mon ange, how did you figure it out?”

Richard chuckled. “With Colin’s book and a little push from my friend.”

“You’re not angry?” Julien asked tentatively.

Richard raised an eyebrow. “Am I your Mate?”

“Eh…yes. I wanted to woo you. I went out and bought the peaches this morning. I picked them out myself with the basket and the ribbon. Isabel stacked them for me so I wouldn’t bruise them. By the gods, I’m babbling.”

Damn, Julien was so adorable. “Maybe you might want to show me your wolf, then you can make your phone calls. I think that’s how it works.” Richard giggled.

“Your phone is on the bed. You were talking to Julio.”

“He made me promise to call him before I did anything else. To be fair, he was afraid I’d go running off into the night.”
