“Not until you take my third finger. I’m going to put it inside, and once I’ve stretched you fully, you’ll be ready for me.” His erection throbbed with urgency.

Henri prepped his third finger and used all three to make the muscle loose enough to receive his cock. “I’m going to take you now, little one.”

Vitas tried to turn over on his stomach. Henri put one of his big hands on Vitas’ belly. “No, little one, I want to see your eyes when I take you. Lie on you back, pet. I’m putting a pillow under you. Armand says it helps. I am as new to this as you are.”

“Really, Henri?” Vitas whispered his Alpha’s name again.

“Really.”

Henri lined himself up to Vitas’ hole and slowly but inexorably pushed inside. His little one didn’t even wince. He grabbed Henri around his chest and propelled himself up into his Mate’s arms as Henri came into him. Henri began to push back and forth, and Vitas moaned.

“I feel so much, I’m helpless in your arms. You make it so I can’t think.”

Henri watched, pleased as Vitas got lost in the demands of his body.

Vitas yelled, “Faster, harder, now…I’m going to burst.” This was the moment of truth. Heart pounding, his fangs elongated, and he felt his eyes turn red. Vitas’ eyes went glassy, then red. Henri watched as Vitas opened his mouth and dropped his four small fangs. Henri bit down on the spot he had mentally marked as his on the fleshy part above his Mate’s collarbone. Vitas bit his Mate’s chest just above his heart. He screamed in pleasure as he ejaculated over both of their stomachs. Henri’s knot formed. Vitas lapped at the four pinpricks he left on Henri.

Henri turned on his back, carefully shifting Vitas up onto his stomach. Both men were breathing hard. “This is the time, little one, for whispered love words and secrets you want only me to know.” He softly kissed Vitas on his forehead followed by light kisses all over his face then whispered, “I love you, little one.”

Vitas gulped. “I tried to kill him, that’s why he locked me up with the shit and mushrooms. When he tore out my parents’ throats, I jumped him. I tried to murder the Russian Chief Alpha. I should be marked for death.” He sniffled.

“Even our Alpha who is The Alpha would not punish you for this. Raping another’s Mate is the worst crime an Alpha can perpetrate. His own council should have put him down like a dog. You were brave, little one, not criminal.” Henri stroked circles on Vitas’ back. “If you wish, I’ll have The Alpha tell you this himself. He had made up his mind to either burn Chernof or take his head when he first heard your story. He told me he will tell you about this when we go downstairs tonight. Unfortunately, my pet, we need to let the pack view my mark tonight instead of tomorrow morning so it can be validated before Chernof makes a counter claim.”

“What if he comes before we finish? You have so many packs.”

“I have many packs and those packs have many members but only the Alpha of the pack needs to see my mark and my home pack but my home pack is small. It will all be over within four hours. We have the strength to keep Chernof away that long. Then we can go to bed and celebrate the mating in the morning after sleeping late. I’m sorry this is necessary, but we don’t want Chernof to have even a small blemish on our mating to use against us. My knot has gone down. Let me wash us up.”

Henri gently put Vitas aside and rose from the bed. He walked into the bathroom, cleaned his stomach and the four pinpricks on his chest, retrieved a basin, wet cloth, and picked up a dry towel. He returned to the bed and gently washed Vitas’ stomach and cheeks.

Now that they were properly mated, they could put an end to this Chernof problem. Still, something troubled Henri. Chernof was not a complete fool. If he could find a way to take Vitas, he would.

Henri’s Library and Pack Gathering Room

One hour after Midnight

The Alpha sat in a Windsor chair in Henri’s library with the council, while the pack Alphas, Betas, and home pack snacked in the gathering room. “We had to call all of them in to witness the mark. Chernof is going to escape.”

Rémy drank so much scotch that he would have been a sot if he were human.

Armand sipped on his cognac. “Chernof got away as soon as he left the house. He planned it out, so he stayed two steps ahead of us throughout the whole incident. We didn’t catch the she-wolf in the kitchen. Aline said she arrived before Henri called her about finding his Mate, and the she-wolf is not talking. We could get creative with our questioning, but according to our laws that would be unethical.”

“Chernof either made a very lucky guess that Henri was next or knew what we were planning because he had a mole in our ranks. If we do have a mole somewhere in the council households, it would have to be an Enforcer. Our Betas are assigned to us at our majority, and they have been with us for most of our lives. A Beta can hide nothing from his Alpha.” Etienne paced the floor.

Rémy poured himself another scotch. “Henri keeps good booze. It must be because it’s so damn cold here. As to you point, not necessarily true, a Beta can withhold information from his Alpha. Chernof’s Betas facilitated Vitas’ escape and started to plan for it immediately after he murdered Vitas’ parents.”

“True. However, I still think that it had to be be an Enforcer because they are the only ones beside the Betas, our housekeepers, and factotums who are aware of everything we do and when we’re going to do it. They aren’t as wedded to their Alpha as the Betas are. Chernof had to break every law we have before his Betas acted.” Gabriel tapped his fingers on the leather-topped library table with a beat that accelerated as he became more agitated. “Remember, they risk their heads and all future turns on the wheel. They court oblivion unless the gods take up their cause.”

“We could be sowing dissention in the households for nothing. Maybe it was a lucky guess. If Etienne and Julien were mated, it logically followed that Henri would be next. The Mates came in the order of precedence,” Marc inserted, obviously trying to calm the waters.

“But how did he find out about Etienne and Julien? It came very quickly for Julien. Etienne’s situation with Julio was widely known.” Rémy’s voice was grim.

“Everyone knew about the crooked cop who took a shot at Richard. Henri blistered Murphy, and no one would think to keep that to themselves. Even if we don’t gossip to the humans, there is gossip among those of us who are loup garou. Our Mates gossip at their luncheons.” Armand stood and went to the bar. “I think we are going to use Vitas’ gift sooner rather than later.”
