“I have to go to work, but I’ll come back with lunch,” Bazooka said as I settled back against the pillow. “Do you think you can stay alone for a few hours?”

“Yeah, I’ll just go back to sleep.”

“Good. I’ve memorized my address on your phone in case you need to call an ambulance. I’ll lock the door behind me, but I left the spare key on the kitchen counter.”

“Okay.”

“If you need anything or if you get worse, call me. You have my number.”

I grinned despite the pain. “I always do.”

Bazooka pointed his finger at me in warning.

“Don’t remind me. Your buddy Jordan is in trouble, too, by the way.”

I blinked in disbelief. “You knew it was him all this time? And you didn’t say anything?”

He shrugged noncommittally. “It was more fun this way.”

“Nah,” I disagreed after giving it some thought. “You liked my texts.”

“You’re funny, but not that funny,” Bazooka countered. “I’m off. See you later.”

“I’ll wait for you in your bed.”

Again, he wouldn’t smile, but I was getting to him. I could just feel it. Also, I felt like old Luz again, although I still hurt all over.

When I heard the front door close, my smile fell. I didn’t like being left alone after last night, but I told myself that I was safehere. Briefly, I considered snooping around, curious to see what his place looked like, but it hurt to move. It left me ruminating on how things unfolded, because being here seemed like a dream. Twenty-four hours ago, I was Bazooka-less, and now I was in his apartment and his bed. That toothless bastard did me a favor in a way, but I still planned to kill him after I found him. Still, I had to heal first and get my strength back, which would take some time. It got me thinking. It got me worried. Baz wouldn’t just throw me out of here, would he? Nah. But he could find me another place to stay, and someone else to take care of me. That was unacceptable, and I was ready to break my leg to prevent it from happening. Also, he was so nice to me I almost felt sorry for being a pain in his ass for all these months. He saved me. He watched over me. He helped me take a shower. He…

My eyes snapped open at the thought, because… howthe fuckdid I not remember this part sooner? How wasn’t that my first thought after I woke up? And why couldn’t I remember more than just bits and pieces? I was in so much pain and high on meds last night, but I could vaguely remember him washing me. Jesus Christ, his hands were on my ass at one point! Weren’t they? I wasn’t sure because my memory was fucking with me, but we were in the shower together. I was sure of it. And he was naked too, wasn’t he? Everything was a fucking blur, but I could remember a wide back rippling with muscle. A tight, firm ass, rippling with muscle. Buns of fucking steel. But nothing more.

I groaned, tempted to hit my head so it would start working, but it probably wasn’t the best idea. Instead, I took a few painkillers that Baz left for me and tried to relax. I also told myself I should start behaving more rationally. Fixating on my savior’s ass was rather dumb, although I was obsessing over that guyfor months. I have been stalking him from a distance, forChrist’s sake. Someone else in my situation would do something more reasonable, like call his friends, or…

I whined internally, cursing myself for being so thoughtless.

Shit. The Triple Threat. They’re going to kill me.

I grabbed my phone and dialed a number. After a few rings, Alain answered in a sleepy voice.

“Too early, Luz.”

“Where are you?”

“We’re all crashing at my place. Before you say anything else, let me ask you something. When you said you were with Bazooka last night, did you mean Bazooka, Bazooka?”

“Yes,” I replied, biting my bottom lip, only to groan in pain. Shit. That hurt too.

“Did you two fuck?”

I couldn’t help but feel flattered by the question.

“Not yet,” I said, trying to contain my excitement. “But I’ll start working on it as soon as I get better.”

Delusional, much?A voice in my head asked me, but I told it to fuck off.

“Wait, what do you mean when you get better?” Alain asked me, sounding confused.

After I gave him the rundown of what happened, he started shouting at me, of all things.
