“Don’t remind me,” I grumbled. “Last night was very reckless of me. Irresponsible. Stupid. I could go on.”
“Nah,” he disagreed. “It was the best night of my life. After the first, the second, and the third best night of my life, which already happened.”
He opened the nightstand drawer and pulled out a pack of tissues, only to squeal in excitement.
“You fixed Pan!”
I frowned in confusion. What the hell was he talking about?
When he pulled that ugly statue out of the drawer, I gagged and jumped out of bed.
“Get that thing away from me. Jesus!”
“If I ever doubted your feelings, I don’t doubt them anymore, kochanie,” Luz exclaimed, running after me with that ugly thing in his hand. “This is a sign that you’re truly committed.”
Actually, it was a sign that Ishould becommitted, but I went to take a shower anyway. After I put some food in me, some clothes on me, and tucked my gun into a holster, I felt like a semi-normal human being. A cop, even.
“What did we agree on?” I said sternly, reminding him of the rules.
“I will go to Jordan’s place, take the rest of my stuff, and come back here. Vincent will stay with me at all times.”
“And you will call me when you get here,” I reminded him.
Luz rolled his eyes. “And I’ll call you when I get here, Daddy.”
“Don’t call me daddy,” I growled.
“Fine, but just so that you know, we’re sexting today. I don’t need a dick shot, not with Office Vile close to you, but I’ll need more of that ‘love’ stuff you mentioned earlier.”
Chapter 21
The Ripper
Luz
“We’re getting married!” I squealed in excitement, sharing the happy news with my friends. “I’m almost sure of it.”
“What did you say?” Alain said with a frown. “God, my throat hurts. You guys should sit further away from me in case I’m contagious.”
“You don’t look sick, but these forks look dirty,” Wagner grumbled. “Speaking of, why is your cake green, Dotty?”
Dakotah smiled. “It’s a new recipe that Mr. Gio gave me. He got it from his aunt.”
“Not the gun smuggler?” I mumbled with my mouth full of green cake.
“He’s a businessman,” Dakotah said, rolling his eyes. “A respected… banker, I think.”
“A respected criminal, let’s agree, shall we?” Alain said, shifting his confused gaze to me. “And you, Luz, talked about encroaching… or being encroached… God, my head hurts. It has to be a tumor. It has to be.”
“Engaged,” I corrected him.
Dakotah blinked. “Engaged? Like, unable to attend? Or engaged to be married?”
“The latter,” I snorted. “Duh.”
Wagner was too smart for his own good, so he knew what to ask.
“Does Bazooka know that, Luz? That he’s getting married, I mean.”
