He scowled at me, but he turned so red in the face I had to laugh again. After we finished eating, I suggested something that I knew I would most definitely regret.
“Let me put sunscreen on you,” I said, standing up. “I don’t want you to burn.”
Luz choked on the water he was drinking as his cheeks turned deliciously pink.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Baz.”
“Yeah, we’ll do it, anyway. Get up and turn your back to me.”
He did what I said as I started to apply the sunscreen to his skin. I was probably too rough with him, but I didn’t want him to get overly… excited.
“Did you choose this secluded place because I look like a leper?” he asked me as I squirted more lotion onto my palm.
“Don’t ever say that again. Your wounds are healing. You look fine.”
I meant it, too. The worst of the contusions was still visible, but the smaller cuts and bruises were gone.
“Can I ask you something?” Luz said, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“You never asked for permission before,” I mocked him.
“If you were gay, would you fuck me?”
I let out a heavy sigh. Of course, it had to bethatkind of question.
I gave it some thought and shrugged. “Objectively, yeah, I would fuck you. You’re an attractive guy.”
“And subjectively?”
I chuckled. “Subjectively, I wouldn’t touch you with a ten-foot pole.”
“Fucking asshole!” he exclaimed. “Why not?”
“‘Cause you’re trouble, Luz. Now do my back.”
“What about my front?”
“You can do it yourself.”
I tossed him the sunscreen and turned my back to him.
“You don’t deserve it, but I’m not skipping this opportunity,” Luz murmured. “God, even your ribs have muscles. How is that possible?”
“It’s not.”
He applied the sunscreen to my shoulders, giving me a little massage while at it, and it felt fucking good.
“So, you’re attracted to me?” Luz blurted, making me laugh.
“And how did you draw that conclusion?” I asked him.
“You said I’m attractive. If you find me attractive, it means you’re attracted to me.”
“I don’t think it’s the same, sweetheart.”
“Well, I do,” he insisted. “Do you want me to do your front? Please?”
I chuckled. “Thanks, but I’ll do it myself.”
