"So," Cooper says finally, his voice hoarse. "We did that."

"Yeah." I'm still catching my breath. "We did."

"Any regrets?"

I consider the question seriously. Two hours ago, if someone had told me I'd be standing naked in a basement after having the best sex of my life with a guy I'd spent two years hating, I'd have laughed in their face.

Now?

"Are you kidding me? That was..."

"What?"

"The best sex I've ever had."

Cooper grins, and it's the first genuinely happy expression I've seen from him since freshman year. "Yeah?"

"Not even close. You're..." I trail off, searching for words that don't exist.

"I'm what?"

"Addictive."

We start getting dressed slowly, neither of us wanting to break the spell. Cooper pulls his shirt on and looks directly at me.

"So what now? Do we go back to hating each other and pretend this never happened?"

The question hits me in the chest. "Do you want to?"

"Fuck no. I want to do this again. Soon."

"How soon?"

"How about tonight? Your place or mine?"

I stare at him, trying to read his expression in the dim light. "You're serious."

"Dead serious. Now that I know what it's like to have you, you think I'm just going to walk away?"

He steps closer, and his voice drops to barely audible. "I've been miserable for two years, trying to figure out why you hated me. Who would have thought it was because you wanted to fuck me all along."

"That's a gross oversimplification—"

"Is it? Because from where I'm standing, we just solved two years of sexual tension in about ten minutes."

"Ten minutes? Try five."

"Ouch. My ego."

I'm laughing—actually laughing—and Cooper's grinning at me like I just gave him the best gift in the world.

We can hear voices getting closer upstairs, which means our group is probably wrapping up their tour. Cooper finds his flashlight and flicks it on, and we make our way back through the basement toward the stairs.

As we climb back up to the main floor, I catch a piece of conversation between two of my frat brothers near the front door.

"You're full of shit," Adam is saying.

"No, it really is haunted, I swear," Connor insists. "Did you not hear the banging coming from the basement? I'm never coming back here. This place is cursed."

I try not to burst out laughing. Cooper catches my eye and winks, and I have to bite my lip to keep quiet.

What a fucking night.
