“Well,” Isaiah said, “we start by setting up surveillance equipment on your house. Watching to see if anyone messes around there. I don’t think it was Judge McConnell himself who was hiding in that secret passage in the wall, the night I was over there. He’s too old for something like that. Most likely, he has help. We think if we keep an eye on things, we’ll catch them in the act.”

Her eyes lit up as she said, “Ooh! Because criminals come back to the scene of the crime!”

He chuckled. “Sometimes. That’s a nice phrase for TV, though. But yes… as I said… sometimes they do.” He paused a beat, then added, “And if that’s the case, the Daddy Guard will be waiting for them.”

Chapter 22

That evening, once the group had found their way back to the Guard’s mansion, Cami wasn’t sure what to do.

Part of her kept saying she should just get ready for bed, wait for Daddy to tuck her in, and then go to sleep like a good girl.

Another part of her—the louder, needier part—wanted to sleep in Isaiah’s bed again. After they… didother things.

Should she make the first move? How did that work exactly? This was new territory for her.

Gosh, Cami. You’re going to seem so pathetic. Act like you’ve done this before.

As she paced around her room, considering it all, she realized there was a third part, too—the part of her that still doubted Isaiah actually wanted her. It was the part that had held her back before. The part that seemed to always be with her, those haunting self-doubts that told her no man would ever want her.

She was so lost in thought she didn’t realize Isaiah had poked his head in through the partially open door until he spoke.

“You okay, honey?”

“Yeah,” Cami said after stopping abruptly and jumping slightly.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” He stepped all the way inside the room. “Are you thinking about the ghost again?”

She hadn’t been, actually, but this it was the perfect excuse to flee to Daddy’s bed.

“Yeah.”

“Well, don’t worry. You’re sleeping in my room now, anyway. No one will get you. And that goes for the living as well as the dearly departed.” He winked at her.

So there was her answer. Isaiah was expecting her to sleep with him tonight. Did that mean they would…

“I’ll grab my stuff and be in there in a minute,” she said, hoping her cracking voice didn’t betray the nervousness she felt. “I want to go tell the girls goodnight, too.”

“Come on whenever. It’s your room now too.”

A wide grin split her lips. Mmm. She loved what she heard. Her and Daddy just slept together now. Like she’d always dreamed of.

And Isaiah was exactly like the Daddy she’d longed for in all those fantasies: loving, kind, protective, hot, and beyond sexy.

Now if only she was the skinny, toned, sexy woman she imagined herself to be. Instead of her chunky, awkward self…

After gathering a couple of things, she padded softly down the hall toward the other bedrooms. Thankfully, she didn’t have to knock on any doors because Iris and Lana came out of a door at the end.

“Hey, we were going to see if you needed anything from the nursery,” Iris said.

“I think I’m good,” Cami replied. “But thank you.” She lowered her voice a little. “Can we go in there and talk?”

“Of course,” Iris said, turning to lead the way.

Once the three women were inside the room and the door was shut, they sat down on the large rug in the center of the room. All around them, soft, pastel colors made the room feelwarm and inviting. The smell of baby powder hung faintly in the air, bringing a sense of comfort. There was a floor-to-ceiling shelf stacked neatly with diapers of all kinds.

It was a Little’s paradise.

Normally, Cami would love being in the special space. But right now, she was just too nervous to truly enjoy it.
