“The highest of compliments,” I say dryly as I take my mug to the table and sit down across from Ernest.“And anyway,” I tell him firmly as I pick up my own fork, “there’s no need to talk about Jason any longer. He’s out of my life, which means none of us will have to worry about seeing him ever again.”

Ernest frowns, setting his fork down, eyebrows drawn together.

“But, missy, I saw him on TV this morning.”

And even though I knew the shitstorm was coming…

I’m still not prepared.

Forty-Four

Hudson

So much forthe day off.

I’m currently sitting in the chair across from Dee’s desk at the Gold’s practice facility, thinking this shit would have been much easier to undertake if the Eagles’ rink was back up and running.

Mostly because I wouldn’t have to temper the urge to put my fist through the wall.

This space isn’t ours.I can’t start punching sheetrock and throwing chairs.

Jean-Michel is sitting on the edge of the desk, Diana is behind it, her head in her hands, and our social media team is talking about the best course of action to get ahead of this.

Only…there’s nogetting aheadof it.

Because the scene that Diana told me about—Jason wrapping his arms around another woman and kissing her as Wings (the team’s mascot) ran through the back halls intent on crowd entertainment has hit the internet.

And it’s gone viral.

Mostly because someone found the full video feed—of both JasonandDiana.

And spliced them together.

I shouldn’t have watched.

But seeing the wide shot of Jason sucking face with a random woman as Wings ran by transitioning right onto Dee, her face tilted up to the screen, her eyes filled with hurt…

Yeah, that was what really triggered my wall-punching and chair-throwing urges.

Or maybe it was theothervideo that is starting to rack up views.

Me and Diana walking hand-in-hand toward the plane, me smiling down at her then tucking a strand of hair behind her ear combined with that original video, the news of our relationship fanning the fires of social media virality to epic proportions.

Dee’s old and new.

Add in the beleaguered Eagles who’ve been in the news far too much of late.

The firing and criminal activities of the last head coach.

Chrissy and Rome.

Rory and King.

Jean-Michel and Tiff.

The earthquake.

And—oh yeah—my taking a hit from the ceiling for Dee is making its rounds thanks to some of the patients at the hospital.
