“AndI’mtellingyou.”I rest my forehead against hers.“I’ve lived my dream for years now, baby.If me having you means stepping back so you can be free to live yours, then I’ll do it in a heartbeat.”
Her lungs hitch.“D-dammit!”she cries.
“Sweetheart,” I murmur, drawing her against me, holding her tight.“What’s the matter now?”
“Well, aside from you being so wonderful and sweet it’s impossible to resist you”—she tilts her head back and scowls at me—“you’re also right.”She sighs and drops her head forward, resting it against my collarbone.“I’m sorry. What we have is more important than a video or some hard questions. It’s even more important than my job.”
“Baby—”
“But I hear you,” she says.“I hear you and I don’t think it’ll come to that. But if it does…” She brushes her lips over my jaw.“Ihearyou, honey.”
Relief ripples through me.“Glad to hear that.”
We stand there, holding each other for a moment. Then she sighs and wrinkles her nose.“Do we have to let everyone back in now?”
“Probably.”I grin at her disgruntled expression.“But it won’t be so bad.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because I have a plan.”
“A plan?”
“Yup,” I tell her and tap her adorable nose.“And it’s one I think you’re going to like.”
Her brows shoot up in question.
“We’re going to let everyone back in?—”
“Somehow I don’t likethatpart,” she mutters dryly.
I just grin before I finish.
“—and then we’re going to set up an interview with Eva Moreno.”
She stills. Then the tension leaves her frame and a smile curves her lips.
“What do you think?”I ask softly.
“Oh, my hot hockey player boyfriend…”
I laugh when she quotes one of the videos.
“…I think I need to kiss you now,” she finishes, ad libbing in the best possible way.
The good news is that she’s finally smiling.
The better news?
She does exactly that.
Andkeepskissing me until Jean-Michel and the social media team get impatient and come back in to the office.
“That’s hot,” Stephanie says, snapping another pic before we break apart.
I sigh, glare at her then…focus.
Because we’ve got work to do.
