"I promise," I said and I meant it with all my being.
Drew
Iapproached the glass door and peered inside, but couldn't see through the dark. It was unusual. Even when the lights were out, it was still visible inside with all panoramic glass-fronted panels wrapping around the bar.
"What the…" I mumbled and looked at the alarm on the side.
The light on the top right was orange. It hadn't been set off.
That's strange.
I placed a gemstone on the pliable surface of the panel and the light went from orange to green and I unlocked the door of Moon Jinx.
How the hell was I first to arrive? I was usually late to open my own bar. And Fenrir? He was always an hour early when he was on shift so he could organize everything how he liked.
I stepped inside.
"Hello? Is anyone—" I started when I was swallowed by a black cloud.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
My heart rate shot up in an instant and I took a deep breath as I was spat out the other side of the cloud and into the bar where Sett, Gene, Ani, and all my friends were gathered around, all frozen in time with a banner above their heads that readFreedom Party.
"Oh damn it." I sighed. "You idiots. You should know not to surprise a time witch with a sordid past." I rolled my eyes and weaved through my friends if only just to confirm they were all safe and there were no active threats in the room before I let them all go.
"Surprise!" they all shouted at once but it didn't take long for heads to turn.
"Wh-where did he go?" Tomasz asked and I whistled, bringing everyone's attention to me standing behind them all.
"Drew! What are you doing there?" Sandro asked.
"You ruined the surprise," Sett said and came up to me to hug me and kiss my forehead.
"Well, it's not my fault. I thought I was being attacked. You guys should know better than to be shady like that. A blackout spell? Really?" I pointed at the cloud wrapping around the bar that was already starting to dissipate.
"Yeah, I guess that was a bad idea. But we didn't want you to see us," Gene said.
I raised an eyebrow. "You couldn't hide behind furniture like normal people?"
Sandro smirked.
"But darling, we're not normal people."
I shrugged. "You can say that again."
"Anyway," Tomasz said and looked from Sandro to me. "You're free! Yay!" He threw himself at me and I lost my balance. Tomasz fell on an armchair behind him and I fell on top of him.
"Oops," Tomasz giggled.
"Do you want me to get into trouble with your boyfriend or what?" I told him and I rushed to get off Tomasz.
I glanced at Loki expecting to find him frowning but he just winked at me and turned to Hades and whispered something.
"Okay. That's new," I mumbled and Tomasz grabbed my hand to help himself up.
"He's really had a change of heart about you since you told us what's going on," he said. "In fact, it was kind of his idea to throw this party."
I glared at Tomasz. "Okay I may not be the smartest person around here but I'm not stupid."
