Javyous
“You’re a grown ass man, Javyous. Tuck your lips back in. Pouting isn’t going to change this,” Pres said when I got into the passenger seat of his ride.
I hadn’t said a word to him since we’d dropped Kehlani and her friend off to the hotel. When we talked, the agreement was for us to talk with her about being in a relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, then he all of a sudden changed it to us staying married. Pres knew my lifestyle and the situation that I had going on with Kecia and Zoey, so I didn’t understand why he would tell Kehlani or Cheryl that this shit was happening.
“You want me to stay with this girl and we don’t know shit about her. What if she tries to take me for all I got?” I frowned.
“Javyous, be serious. You know I would never do anything to hurt you or Dominique, ever, in any way. Cheryl has everything under control.”
Grunting, I turned to look out of the window. I had no doubt in my uncle at all, but he wanted me to essentially entrust myself and my bread to these women that we both had only met a few times.
When we got to Cheryl’s office there were three people in the room with her, one of them being Kehlani. I didn’t like being in the same room as Kehlani because my fucking heart skipped a beat whenever she was around. It was something about those beautiful brown eyes that drew me in and had me wanting to give her fine ass whatever, whenever, and I had just fucking met her.
“So nice of you gentlemen to finally join us.” Cheryl stood to shake both of our hands.
After doing so, I took a seat in the chair directly across from Kehlani but fought hard not to look at her in fear that I might just jump across the table and kiss those sexy ass lips that she had covered in lip gloss.
That plan failed as my eyes shifted her way on their own. Her hair was curly now instead of straight like last two times that I’d laid eyes on her and she was dressed in scrubs making me wonder what she did for a living.
Probably a CNA. That’s what most females were doing these days.
“Now that we’re all here, let’s make some introductions,” Cheryl suggested, jarring me from my thoughts. “We’ll start with Zach here since he isn’t needed the entire meeting. JV, Zach is your new manager…”
“What?” I leaned forward with my brows pinched together. “My uncle manages me.”
“He did,” she corrected. “Your uncle and I both thought this would be better for you seeing as though you’ll be back fighting soon. With him training you there is no way that he would have the time to focus on both. Zach here is more than capable.” Her hands were folded in front of her, but she used them to gesture in his direction. “He’s worked with some of the top athletes in the business.”
“Here’s my resume if you’d like to see it,” Zach offered, sliding a folder to me.
“Pres, what’s up, what do you think?” I asked ignoring Zach and Cheryl.
“I like the idea and him.” He shrugged. “I’m actually the one that picked him.”
“Aight then.” I nodded. That was all I needed to hear.
“Perfect.” Cheryl beamed before turning to Zach. “I’ll email you all of JV’s contact information so the two of you can set up a formal meeting. I just wanted to at least make the introduction since the three of us will be working so closely together.”
Nodding, Zach stood and shook everyone’s hand in the room except for Kehlani’s. He simply nodded and excused himself from the room before she introduced the other guy that was in the room.
“Okay.” Cheryl clapped and eyed us all. “Now down to business. Guys, this is Ned. He’s a contract lawyer that I hired to draw up some documentation for the matter at hand.” Picking up a stack of papers, she passed them around to all of us. “This is an NDA. I’ve had Ned draw it up for the obvious reason, right? This information cannot get out,at all. This says that if you agree to remain in the marriage agreement for at least one year, Kehlani, you will be given a total of one million dollars. You’ll receive two hundred and fifty thousand dollars today, then the rest will come over the course of the twelve-month period.”
“Why can’t I get it all now?” she asked and I frowned. So, she was just a money hungry female like everyone else.
“Well, Kehlani if we did it that way, there wouldn’t be anything to keep you from breaking your end of the deal. Also understand that if you violate this agreement, the penalty is you having to pay back two times the amount that you’re agreeing to.”
“I wouldn’t do that,” she fired back.
“I know honey, this is just to ensure that,” Cheryl answered, delivering her a warm smile. “The second payment would deposit in four months and so on and so forth.”
“Whose money are you paying her with today?” I frowned because fuck all that. I hadn’t agreed to give her ass a fucking dollar for this shit. Nobody had told me shit.
“Yours, now hush,” Pres said, delivering a look my way.
I didn’t know why he thought this shit was cool. I was good financially, but not rich. A million dollars was all I had to my name after purchasing my gym, house, and car. I’d even paid my pops’ crib off as a gift to him.
“As I was saying, you’ll have received four payments over the course of twelve months plus whatever your husband decides to do for you own his own,” Cheryl continued and I scoffed. She had me fucked up if she thought I was giving Kehlani’s ass a free mil plus more.
“What does thismarriageentail?” She used air quotes around the word marriage. “Like what is required of me.”
