I didn’t too much fuck with the idea of not getting paid, but I was always down to give back to the community.
“Let’s hear it.”
“I was contacted to set up a charity boxing event to raise money for the Mount Sinai Children’s Hospital. This event will get a lot of traction and news attention. If you would agree to host it here that would be even better.”
“Here? Like at TKO?” I asked for clarity.
She nodded. “The event won’t be that big, it’s local. This space would be perfect.”
I looked over at my uncle who was nodding, wearing a wide smile. He was the one that would be involved with that. I owned my gym, but he was more hands on with it than I was.
“Aight, bet. Sounds like a plan,” I agreed.
“Perfect. I’ll start getting everything in order. I’ll be in touch soon about a fight in Vegas too.”
We shared a handshake before she and Zach headed out.
“See you in an hour, JV?” Zach asked from the door.
“Yeah, I’m about to get cleaned up now.”
He nodded and left, leaving me and my uncle alone. We shared a look then smiled big as we dapped one another up. Shit had really started to look up for your boy. Blessings were for sure rolling in.
Pres and I cleaned the gym then I showered and changed before preparing for my meeting with Zach. I made sure to bring a Gucci short set and the matching shoes to wear to the meeting. I didn’t want to walk in there wearing basketball shorts and slides even though I had just finished training for the day.
“What’s the meeting for again?” Pres asked when I tossed the strap to my duffle bag over my shoulder.
“Hell if I know,” I admitted. “Zach just hit me up about a business opportunity and you know if it makes dollars, it makes sense to me. I’m trying to get this crib too.”
“Oh yeah, the one in Chandler Heights, right?”
I nodded.
I already knew we were going to need more space with just the twins, but with Kehlani being pregnant, I knew that I needed more room for my family. Chandler Heights was where all the niggas with money lived. I could have bought a house up there a long time ago, but I’d gotten my gym and mine and my pops’ cribs . It was just me then so I was comfortable. I had a family now though, so shit was different.
“I’m super proud of you, nephew,” he said, dapping me up one last time.
“I know, I appreciate that.” I nodded. “I’ll fuck with you later.”
We went in opposite directions, me with a little extra pep in my step because I was excited to find out what the meeting was about. I sent up a quick prayer that it was what I was hoping it was then headed in that direction.
Chapter Twenty-Four
Kehlani
Putting the top back on my pen, I grinned at the thought of my plans. Javyous and I had the night to ourselves since the twins were with Pharaoh’s parents. It was their anniversary, so they were having a party. I hadn’t hesitated to tell them yes when they’d asked for Si and Jocey. They loved my kids and the feelings were mutual. It was hard to believe that their son actually was their child with how trifling he was.
Javyous had just recently gotten the opportunity to shoot a commercial for Black Ops, the bourbon distillery in here in Crescent Falls. He tried to act like it wasn’t that big of a deal, but I wasn’t going to allow him to downplay it. The opportunity was huge and I was proud of him.
After cleaning all of the things that I had used, I went searching for Javyous. I found him in the living room on the video game.
“Dominique, where the fuck you at? I’m fucking surrounded,” he fussed into his headset.
Tonight was one of the rare nights that he had off, so he was home relaxing. Even Dominique went in early just for him.
“Baby,” I called out to take his attention from the game. When he looked my way, I was holding up two index cards. He couldn’t see what they said because the activities were facing me. All he could see was the wordsDate Nighton his side. “Pick one.”
“In a minute, bae,” he responded before looking back at the TV.
