He collected the papers after I signed them and put them in a folder them his bag.
“Don’t thank me, thank your wife and kids. I’m sure they’re the reason.” He winked and headed out. “Oh, Nike reached out too. We’re still going over some details, but I’ll be in touch with you soon about that and I’ll have the details about Kehlani’s new building.”
“Bet, appreciate that.”
I’d asked him to find out what building she’d put a down payment on so that I could help her out. She was there for me when I needed her to be even when she didn’t have to be, so I wanted to look out for her too. I wanted her to know I was going to support her shit just as much as she supported mine, which was another reason I’d posted her business and shit on my page. I wanted to send some traffic her way.
A call from Dominique came through, breaking me from my thoughts.
“Where the fuck yo’ ass at nigga and don’t say the gym. Pops told me you start training tomorrow already.”
“Don’t be clocking my fucking moves, Dominique.”
“Yeah, yeah, where you?”
“The Falls. I just got me, Lani, and the kids a spot.”
“Good, I’m at DayLux, pull up and drink with me.”
“Nigga I just said I bought a crib. I need to move and shit.” I frowned.
“JV, it’s Wednesday, start moving this weekend. Come eat with your favorite cousin and have some drinks.”
“You’re my only cousin, mothafucka,” I mumbled, pocketing my house keys and heading out. His spot wasn’t too far from here since it was in the downtown area.
“Still the favorite, I’ll see you soon.”
He disconnected the call before I could respond. I chuckled to myself after dropping my phone into my lap. I could use a drink or ten since I was about to be training hard. I also didn’t drink close to a match, so I may as well indulge before that time comes.
“You don’t want me to bring any of this stuff with me?” Kehlani asked as she taped another box closed.
“You bought all of this shit?” I asked from the dresser that I was leaning against.
She shook her head. “Pharaoh furnished the whole house.”
“Then hell naw, I don’t want you to bring none of this shit.” I scoffed.
She laughed. “Baby, it’s not that serious. It’s just furniture.”
“Fuck all that, I bought the shit you sent me, you can decorate and shit once we get everything in there.”
I was behind her closing her into my embrace and burying my face into her neck. She smelled like coconuts or some shit. It smelled good, so good that my dick bricked up on her ass.
She nudged me off and turned, pushing the box into my chest. “This is the last one. We have to go to your place.”
“You been running from a nigga a lot,” I said, placing the box on the bed and backing her up until she was laying on her back and I was hovering over her, peppering kisses on her neck and face.
“Not running,” she moaned, angling her head, giving me more access.
“What do you call it then?”
She turned her head to get me to stop and pushed me back so that she had room to sit up.
“We’re new. I already made the mistake of sleeping with you the first night that we met and again after your fight. I don’t want you to think I’m a hoe nor do I want our relationship to be based on sex.”
Pressing my palms into the bed on each side of her, I leaned down so that we were in one another’s face.
“Kehlani, I wouldn’t still be married to you if I thought you were a hoe.”
