Daniel sat next to Shane, and Edgar and Victor sat next to Benjy. The hierarchy was clear in the table setting, but it was not a display of power and control; rather, it was a demonstration of respect.

Benjy met most of the Pack members in and around the main house, and Victor told him that he would meet the entire membership at the Pack meeting on Saturday. Both he and Shane would be accepted as members at that time.

Apart from Daniel treating him like shit, no one else treated him as anything but an accepted member of the Pack and their new Alpha Mate. They seemed very pleased that their Alpha had finally found his true mate and was settling down. Benjy was pleased that Victor had waited for him rather than succumbing to the pressure of his Pack to find a mate. Victor agreed.

It wasn't until after lunch that Benjy realized that some of his sketches were missing and assumed that they had been left in the rental house. He'd explained to Victor earlier that he worked on commission as a graphic artist and illustrator.

It was then that Victor asked him not to accept the dishwashing position at the college and stick to just the commission work. He said his wolf wouldn't accept its mate being away from him every evening. Benjy did not hesitate to agree. It was a dream come true for him to be able to concentrate solely on his art, not that he had any grand illusions of fame and fortune, he just liked to draw.

"I need to go back to the rental. Some of my sketches that were on the top of the refrigerator were forgotten." He told Victor, who was busy working in his office, but not too busy to take care of his mate.

"I'll drive you. I need to check on the garage construction anyway now that Edgar is on guard duty for the next few weeks." He smiled warmly. He always smiled at Benjy and God didn't he love it. Benjy kissed his cheek, and Victor kissed him hard on the mouth.

"Let us not start something we can't continue." He laughed as Benjy took a step back.

"Hey, none of that." He slipped his arm around Benjy's waist and pulled him up tight to his side. He liked having his mate close.

“I really don’t think our old pack is going to give us any problems,” Benjy commented as they drove into town. “Maybe you can let Edgar off guard duty pretty soon.” Shane had come to Benjy that morning and asked him to try and get Victor to allow him to be alone with Daniel. Benjy still didn’t completely trust Daniel and was torn by the request. Leaving it to Victor would probably be best.

"I'll think about it." Victor's response was accompanied by a pat on the knee that turned into a massage of his thigh that turned into a cupping of his cock. Benjy covered his hand with his own, stopping the progressions.

“Like I said earlier, better not start something we can’t finish.” Benjy smiled at him.

“Who said we can’t finish?”

Benjy pointed out the windshield, indicating that they had arrived at the rental, and several wolves were standing around. "I don't like an audience," Benjy said to Victor's chuckle.

“When we get home, we finish this.” Victor gave Benjy’s cock one more salacious squeeze before getting out of the vehicle. Benjy headed in the house as Victor headed out back to see the progress and speak with his men.

The house was empty, with a hollow, lifeless echo as he closed the door and walked towards the kitchen. As he entered, something caught his attention from the hall that went off tothe right. He stared into the darkness but saw nothing. He dismissed the odd feeling of being watched and walked over to the refrigerator, eager to gather his belongings and return to Victor.

As soon as he reached up to get the sketches, it happened. Someone slammed into him from behind, pinning him against the front of the refrigerator door. The breath was knocked out of him as he struggled to make sense of what was happening.

“Thought you could just run away?” The voice was chillingly familiar, and Benjy fought for release, but Greg held him fast with his body pressed against his. Benjy tried to turn his head, but Greg grabbed him by the hair and bounced his face off the front of the refrigerator. Benjy saw stars for a moment before Greg, still holding him by his hair, started to drag him from the kitchen towards the living room.

Benjy stumbled and paid for it as a searing pain shot through his scalp where Greg held tight to his hair. He tried to scream for help, but Greg backhanded him. Benjy spit out the blood in his mouth and once again struggled to get away, scream, anything to stop this madman.

Greg threw him to the floor and jumped on top of him, sitting on his abdomen and holding his hands fast with one of his. He leaned down so that their faces were mere inches apart, and it was then that Benjy saw Greg's wolf so furious and so close. He had to be careful, or he would be killed. Greg's wolf looked at him like the enemy, and that was not good.

"I've been looking for you for ages, Benjy. Why did you run away from me?" He didn't sound completely sane. Greg's wolf was in control. "I thought I could live without you." He placed a very sloppy and unwelcome kiss on Benjy's cheek as Benjy struggled to avoid his mouth. "But I couldn't live without my favorite piece of ass. You are my favorite Benjy, not my only piece of ass, but my favorite." He laughed. "I'm going to teach you that running from your Alpha is never a good Idea."

"You're not my Alpha." Benjy spat and then closed his eyes, certain that he was going to be on the receiving end of another bone-crushing slap, when suddenly Greg was gone. Benjy opened his eyes and scooted frantically backward until he came up flush against the living room wall.

He watched as Greg shifted and made to leap at the man who had just tossed him across the room. Before Greg’s wolf could make contact, Victor shifted, and the two wolves slammed together in midair. Victor’s wolf was enormous and the most stunning creature Benjy had ever laid eyes upon.

Victor had been talking with Ari in the back when he felt Benjy’s fear wash over him. He turned and raced to the house just in time to see some stupid asshole sitting on his little mate and threatening him.

He tore the man away from Benjy and tossed him aside, but the asshole didn’t know when to stop, and Victor was more than willing to tear him to pieces for his affront to Victor’s mate.

Benjy cringed into a corner, afraid for Victor and not knowing what to do when a hand grasped his and pulled him from the room and into the hallway. It was Ari, Victor's brother, who held him as he watched the two Alpha wolves battle. Behind Ari were three of Victor's men who stepped forward to observe the battle and protect the Alpha Mate. "Don't worry Benjy, Victor could have finished him already, but he wants to make him suffer for hurting you." Ari kept his arm around Benjy for support and assurance.

Greg made another leap at Victor, and that was his last. Victor swung around and sliced open his throat with one swipe of his fierce claws. Greg fell to the floor, unmoving, as Victor shifted back and looked frantically around the room to locate his mate. Ari released him, and Benjy quickly ran to him. Victor scooped him into his arms and held him like his life depended on it.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he ran his hands over Benjy's body, looking for wounds, and searched Benjy's face for injuries. He kissed the split lip and swollen cheek before kissing him hard and possessively. His wolf needed to be assured that their mate was well and theirs. His wolf needed to reestablish ownership and was being a bit savage with his kiss and grip.

"I'm sorry, baby, but my wolf is upset and needs to hold you. I'll try to calm him, but for now, just stay real close to me." Benjy nodded rapidly in agreement because there was nowhere he'd rather be right now than in his mate's arms.

Ari and the other men came forward once Victor was calm and his ownership of Benjy seemed well established again. Although no one dared get too close to the Alpha Mate for a while. The men began clearing the room as Ari tossed Victor a pair of sweats that he pulled on without releasing his hold on Benjy.
