Daniel tore through the house to Shane’s room like his life hung in the balance. He didn’t want his mate wandering alone and emotional on land he wasn't familiar with. He knew it wasn't rational. Deep down, he knew that the Pack Lands were safe, but his wolf wouldn't listen. He had to find Shane. The others wouldn't be able to track Shane as well as his mate could.
Victor knew that if they wanted to find Shane quickly, they would need Daniel. He didn't wait for his mate's agreement on this. He gave Daniel permission to pursue his mate and bring him home. Daniel leaped through the open window and went after his runaway mate.
Daniel had felt Shane's frustration the moment he entered his room; it reeked of an anger bordering on rage. Daniel assumed his mate took off because he didn't know what to do with all the emotions he'd bottled up. Daniel understood, but it was too dangerous for Shane to be out alone. His previous Pack may still be out for revenge; just because they'd neutralized one attacker didn't mean there weren't more.
With that thought in mind, Daniel disrobed, shifted, and sped through the woods following his mate's scent. Shane was moving fast, but he was on two legs, and Daniel was on four, so he knew he would overtake him soon.
Shane ran until he thought his lungs would explode. He wished he could shift, which would make his escape possible. His inability to shift made him utterly helpless in the world of wolves in which he lived.
He was well aware that someone would come after him, but that didn't stop him from trying desperately to get as far away as possible. He couldn't outrun a wolf; they would eventually catch him. It would probably be Edgar or even Victor if Benjy threw a large enough tantrum.
It didn't matter that he was going to run until someone stopped him, and then he was going to fight whoever it was. He didn't care that it may be the Alpha; he despised them all now.
Daniel stayed a steady distance behind his mate, letting him run off the helpless energy that had swamped him. His mate needed this, and then they would talk. This would be the first time that he would have had his mate alone, and he was going to take full advantage of the opportunity.
Shane noticed a wolf behind him running at a speed that kept him in sight, but did not catch him. It didn't take long for him to recognize his mate in the large black wolf, and it warmed him like nothing else could have. He made it to an outcrop of large rocks and stopped, sitting down. His heart was beating a mile a minute, and his breath was coming out in rapid pants.
He watched Daniel approach and shift to his human half as he walked. It was a magnificent sight, both the man and the wolf. The fact that he was completely naked was just a bonus.
His mate was amazing, his body was so perfect that Shane couldn't take his eyes off him. Shane took in the finely muscled form of his intoxicating mate. Daniel was a God, all tan and sexy and beautiful. He was tall but not lanky; he was all muscle, and his form was just perfect. Shane couldn't think of a more appropriate word than just perfect. Shane was struck silent by the vision and could do nothing but stare.
"Like what you see, baby?" Daniel teased playfully as he walked up beside Shane and took a seat on the rock next to him. He absolutely loved the way Shane's eyes devoured him.
"Yes, I do like what I see," Shane answered boldly, unashamed by his own wantonness. He never took his eyes off the handsome, naked man. "I'm surprised they allowed you to come after me. I expected Edgar or the Alpha." His tone picked up a bitter edge as he took his eyes away from Daniel to stare mindlessly into the woods. "Weren't they afraid you would call me names or make me cry?" He added sarcastically.
"I would never call you names or make you cry," Daniel spoke as if Shane had been serious.
"I know." Shane looked at him fully and made sure Daniel understood. "I was being sarcastic, not serious. There is no one on earth that I feel safer with than you, no one." That declaration lit up Daniel's face, and he dropped a quick peck to Shane's lips. He didn't linger, not sure of Shane's readiness for physical affection. They stared at each other for several minutes, just taking in every expression, every emotion. Finally, Daniel spoke.
"I talked to Alpha Victor, and he assured me that our circumstances would get better," Daniel spoke softly, laying his hand lovingly on Shane's thigh. Daniel didn't say as much, but he, too, was surprised that no one followed him. He had expected Benjy to send someone as backup in case Daniel decided to go rogue with his little brother. "Talk to me, sweetheart." He wanted to allow Shane to get off his chest everything he wanted to say.
“What do you want to hear?” Shane leaned closer to his mate, enjoying their time together.
"Why are you thinking about quitting school, and why did you make such a feeble attempt at running away? What's going on up here?" Daniel took his hand and rubbed the palm on the top of Shane's head. Shane laughed lightly, and Daniel encircled him with his right arm and pulled him close to his side. Shane dropped his head to rest it against Daniel's shoulder. It was the most comfort and security that Daniel had felt since first laying eyes on his beautiful little mate.
"I just want a regular job and maybe take some online classes, perhaps computer science. I'm not sure what I want long-term in terms of my career. I used to criticize Benjy because he didn't think ahead and didn't plan for the future, but now I realize that sometimes you just don't know." Shane worriedhe wasn't making himself clear, but Daniel understood him completely.
"I get it, you've grown and matured, and what you used to want isn't cutting it anymore." Daniel took the risk and placed another quick kiss on the side of Shane's head. In response, Shane placed a warm kiss on his shoulder, and the heat of it made Daniel shiver with delight. "You're young, you don't have to figure everything out right now." He continued. "All I ask is that you not get tired of me." He finished with a chuckle and another kiss to the side of Shane's head. "So, tell me, why did you run?"
Shane wrapped his arms around his gorgeous mate's naked torso and buried his face into his delicious shoulder. He didn't want to talk about it; he wanted to just stay like this for the next day or two. No responsibilities, nobody watching, nobody following, just him and his mate. But he had to explain, and with a deep sigh, he began.
"I wasn't running away from you. I just wanted to get away from that house and my brother and the rest of them. They all think they have a say in my life, and it's driving me insane." Shane began to rub his hand up and down Daniel's abs without even realizing what he was doing. It felt good, and Daniel didn't complain, so he didn't stop.
"I thought I would explode if I didn't get away, for a while at least. I know I can't go far without people coming after me, but I needed to flee. Does that make any sense?" He gripped Daniel and held him as if afraid he might try to pull away.
"It makes complete sense, my sweet little mate." Daniel returned the hug and wrapped his arms around Shane, holdinghim snug to his chest while burying his face in Shane's intoxicating hair. "I don't know how much time we have before someone comes to check on us, so I'd like to make the most of what we have," Daniel whispered into his mate's ear. He was enjoying having his mate in his arms and having Shane's hands on him, and he wanted more.
“What do you have in mind?” Shane demurred and then chuckled.
Daniel did not answer but rather grabbed his mate and moved him so that he now straddled Daniel’s lap. “This is a beginning.” He said as he bent to give Shane his first real, passionate kiss. He was delighted when Shane tipped his head to accept the kiss as Daniel gently touched their lips.
He was not certain of Shane's experience or readiness, but he hoped for agreement. He found it when Shane ground his clothed ass hard against Daniel's bare cock. His little mate had a wild side that Daniel looked forward to exploring in depth. He deepened the kiss, becoming ravenous in his need to taste and explore. He cupped Shane's face to give himself a better angle to devour.
Shane's mouth was so soft and welcoming that Daniel never wanted to stop, so he didn't. He dipped his tongue inside to sweep through and discover every hidden treasure of Shane's amazing mouth.
He was startled but not surprised when Shane tentatively touched his tongue to Daniel's, and he felt the tremble that coursed through Shane's body as he pushed further into Daniel's mouth and began to explore Daniel's inner regions. Finally, due to a need to breathe, they regrettably had to break the kiss.
Daniel wrapped his arms around Shane and held him in a tight grip while burying his face in Shane's neck. "I love the way you smell, baby, and the way you taste, and the way you touch me. You set me on fire like no other has, so deep, so passionate. I want you so badly." Daniel let loose the hunger he'd been feeling since first seeing his mate.
