We settled side by side in a booth. It might be a little cheesy, but touch was one of my love languages, so I always sat next to a girl rather than across from her when given an option.

We studied the menu in silence, but it was the comfortable type that only happened with people you really clicked with. It just seemed like a sign that we were just right together. I let one hand drop so I could rub her thigh. She didn’t push it away, which was a good sign.

Since dim sum was a family-style setting, I asked, “What are you in the mood for?”

“Soup dumplings and Buddha’s delight, for sure. I’m just torn on whether I should get the cucumber salad or the Shanghai bok choy.”

Her order surprised me. Everything she wanted seemed to be vegetarian or pescatarian in nature. Well, the soup dumplings could be a few different varieties, including a veggie option.

It made me realize we never talked about our diets too much. I just assumed she had no dietary restrictions. “Are you a vegetarian?”

She shook her head and flashed a sweet smile. “No. It’s just late, and I don’t love to eat super meaty dishes at this hour since it just feels heavy on my stomach.”

That made sense to me, and I was glad to know we could still go to my favorite steakhouse tomorrow night like I had planned. Since she was only free a couple of nights every other week, I had to take advantage of all the time I could get.

A petite female server came up to us with that familiar, wide smile fans had when they recognized one of their idols. Normally, I would think the person recognized me, but since Siobhan was a very pretty actress on a long-running TV show, it could have been just as much a fan of hers as one of mine.

But one thing was for sure. If she was rude to her fans, that would be a deal breaker.

“Oh my god, it’s Celia.”

That wasn’t a name I was familiar with, but Siobhan brightened with the recognition. “Only onShady Oaks. You can call me Siobhan. Do you want an autograph?”

Which was the exact reaction I was hoping for.

What I didn’t expect was for the owner, who was an older Asian woman with harsh features who almost always scowled at everyone, to come over to the table. The owner immediately launched into the server with an admonishing tone in Chinese. At least I assumed it was Chinese—all the Asian languages sounded the same to my untrained ears.

The server’s body stiffened, and she looked at the floor.

The whole atmosphere shifted. There would be no autographs or excitement about this casual run-in with a star.

Wanting to change the vibes, I smiled. “It’s okay, but we should probably order. I would hate to keep the kitchen late.”

While a bit of tension from such a nasty scolding lingered, the overall mood improved the moment the owner realized we weren’t put off by the star sighting and didn’t want to be bad customers. I looked toward Siobhan as she ordered basically what she told me, aside from omitting the bok choy option.

Then it was my turn to add to the meal. “Let’s also get the spring rolls, the Shanghai bok choy, the sesame chicken, and white rice.”

The server gave us a quick bow and left the table. I let my hand move up Siobhan’s thigh, a little bit closer to her clit.

She placed a hand on top of mine, stopping my hand in its place. “You didn’t need to do that.”

I knew she was talking about getting the dish she was on the fence about. To me, it was easy. I needed to eat to replace all the calories I burned during the game, and vegetables were a guilt-free treat. If she was debating about two entrees, I wasn’t sure if I would actually get her dish.

“It sounded good. Don’t worry about it," I told her.

She nodded, but something about her body language told me she was still thinking about how I got the other dish she wanted. I thought it was one of those nice-guy moves. Besides, I had every plan of putting some of the green veggies on my plate too.

It made me wonder if she had a previous boyfriend who played games with her by doing something nice and then doing something dickish after.

If she closed up even just slightly because of that type of behavior, I definitely wanted to avoid too many interactions with Spencer Suzuki. The guy was one of my best friends, but he also could be a grade-A prick. One of his special skills was to get under the skin of all our opponents by saying wild shit on the ice. But at the same time, he was one of the most loyal guys ever. The only tricky thing was that I couldn’t exactly avoid Suzuki when I was his roommate, and I couldn’t kick him out of his own house. I just needed to plan accordingly.

Russell Richardson’s former wife, Siobhan Leary, looked super cozy in a trendy Vancouver restaurant with Legacy’s team captain, Carter Carmichael. This isn’t the first time she’s been spotted with the pro hockey player. However, it’s the first time they were seen kissing.
