Besides, deep down I’d actually wanted to ask Jamie, had wanted to see him again. I’d been hoping he would contact me again for the last week but he hadn’t and it was only after I’d spoken to him this morning that it even occurred to me that he might have wanted me to be the one to contact him.
I was out of my depths with this guy. I clearly didn’t know how to do relationships, not that Jamie and I were even remotely in one. Nick was my only point of reference and he had always just been there, always a phone call or a group text away. Or in the room down the hallway. Jamie was another ball game entirely and I admit I didn’t know how to play. Maybe I’d just always expected to be the guy being chased. I’d never had to try in the past to attract male attention but maybe it was the keeping it that was the hard part.
Regardless, I was actually feeling really quite pleased that Jamie was here with me now, here to spend a night in Glen’s amazing penthouse with me. Nothing like a bit of forced proximity to have things play out the way I hoped they would tonight.
“You’re quiet,” Jamie commented as he followed the GPS to Sydney’s leafy eastern suburbs. We’d just stopped at a burger joint to eat a quick meal and though it was the type of food I usually avoided, I was starving enough to devour the greasy cheeseburger and serving of fries Jamie had bought for me despite my protestations. He'd been so pleased when I’d agreed to let him pay that I’d decided to let it go.
“So are you,” I returned.
“Guess I just didn’t expect my day to pan out this way when I woke up this morning,” he said with a little huff. He was so cute sometimes.
“But was it a bad turn of events?” I returned.
“You love looking for compliments, don’t you?” he said and I could only laugh. “But in case you’re wondering, no it was anything but a bad turn of events.”
“I did tell you,” I chuffed, a little smug.
“You did,” he agreed. We pulled up at the front of Glen’s apartment and climbed out of the car. Jamie was there to hold my door open for me and I forgot how much he liked to do that for me. I really wasn’t used to having someone care about me like that. I wasn’t entirely sure if I liked it but I would try to remember to let him open my door in future. He seemed to like doing it so I would let him.
We made our way through security and then up the elevator to the top floor. The elevator dinged and the doors opened to Glen’s sprawling apartment with views of the entire city. Jamie’s eyes lit up and I followed behind him as he beelined for the floor to ceiling glass windows, eyeing the big blue expanse of the harbour, still visible in the night sky while the city lights bounced off the clouds, making everything softly gleam.
“So this is how the other half live,” he said, voice a little awed.
“Yep. Not half bad, huh?”
“It’s all right, I suppose,” Jamie grinned, a playful smile on his face that I really liked. “I spent the entire day looking at an even better view though so this one looks a little mundane in comparison.”
“Really?” I returned, fighting to hold back the smile that wanted to make an appearance at those words. I’d been complimented on my looks my entire life but there was something about hearing Jamie say the words that made me really glow inside.
“Yep. Absolutely stunning,” he returned, wrapping his hands around my hips and pulling me against him. I liked the feel of him there as my hands came up to his biceps, firm and strong as my fingers toyed with the bulge of his muscles. “Are you tired?”
I paused. “I’m ready to go to bed if that’s what you’re asking. Not too tired for anything else you might be thinking about though.”
“Oh? Like what?” he asked, leaning down and running his nose along my neck, right to that spot that always had me gasping.
“Like a bit of that,” I said a little breathlessly.
“Lead me to our room then, Mateo, because I am so desperate for you I might just get down on my knees and end it all here.”
I didn’t hide my grin at that as I turned, hand sliding down to thread our fingers. I led the way to the guest room that I had stayed in all the other times I’d been at Glen’s apartment. Though ‘guest room’ was playing it down a little. All the bedrooms in this place were like master suites, resplendent with king size beds, inground spa baths and requisite views of the harbour.
Jamie closed the door behind us and pressed me up against it. He hadn’t kissed me yet and I liked the anticipation he was building between us. All our other times together had been a little desperate and overheated, no time to savour each other or take our time.
“You know what I liked most about today?” Jamie asked, body pressed lightly to mine, nose skating my neck. His knee lifted to press between my thighs while his hand snaked under my top, rising to trace the contours of my abs.
“What?” I breathed, head knocked back against the door.
“I liked the fact that you were basically naked in front of a room full of people, all eyes on you,” he grinned, that hand tracing higher up to circle my pec.
“You liked that?”
“Yes. I did. And you know what else I think?” he continued, finger now circling my nipple, making my head spin. “I think you liked that too.”
I lost control of my smile, the grin spreading up my cheeks right into my eyes. Jamie’s blue eyes found mine and I could see the delight in them, the delight mixed in with the heat that was slowly rising in both of us.
“I did like it,” I agreed, watching as his eyes fell to my mouth. I bit into my lip, knowing he’d like that too, my hunch proving correct when his eyes dilated even more.
“You like having eyes on you,” he said, tongue licking his lower lip and making me start to squirm. My body had already heated for him, was already aching and needy but he was drawing this out. I wasn’t used to this delaying of pleasure but I found I liked it as that finger and thumb of his tweaked my nipple hard.
