“That’s not the point. The point is, I wanted this trip to be perfect for you. I wanted to show you all the things I love about this place, so you’ll come back here with me time and time again. But then Kevin had to go and ruin all that. I’m pissed off. I’m annoyed as hell. And… and I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize to me. Cody, none of this is your fault.”

“Yes it is. He’s my bird.”

“Is he, though? He seems to be more of a free spirit. Just like you. He comes and goes, just like I know you will with your travel writing. But I know you’ll always come back to me. And maybe once Kevin is finished figuring out all his feelings of jealousy and betrayal, he’ll come back around too.”

Cody smiled and reached across the table, entwining his fingers in mine. “You’re not just smart and gorgeous, are you? You’re wise and understanding too. You’re perfect, you know that?”

I blushed. “Well, notquiteperfect. I still have some work to do when it comes to my irrational fear of sharks. I’m a littlejealous of the way you can throw yourself into the ocean so fearlessly.”

“I’ve got just the thing,” he announced excitedly. “Tomorrow morning let’s take a walk to the next bay. You can only get there on foot or by boat… we might give the boat a miss, but there’s a track through the bush we can take. It’s a bit of a hike, but it’s worth it. Wait till you see this beach. It’s stunning and completely secluded, and if there’s nobody else there, maybe I can talk you into a little skinny dipping.” His eyebrows did a mischievous dance and he leaned across for a kiss. “We’ll pack a little picnic, some fresh fruit, a bottle of bubbly. Sound romantic?”

I kissed him back. “Very.”

The hike was rocky, but we took our time. Cody helped me over fallen logs and boulders, the contents of his backpack clinking invitingly. “That’s the champagne and strawberries calling,” he winked. “Come on, we’re nearly there.”

By mid-morning the heat had really kicked in, but then we reached the crest of a hill and on the other side—

“Oh… my… God,” was all I could manage.

Cody smirked. “Actually, I think it was a goddess who created this one. It’s way too beautiful for a man to have done it.”

The azure bay that came into view, with is white sands and clear glassy waters, was something straight off a postcard or out of a prestige travel magazine, the exact same magazines that Cody often wrote for.

Carefully, though excitedly, we made the hike down to the bay, until soon we were pulling off our hiking boots and letting our toes curl in pristine sand.

As we walked to the middle of the small stretch of beach, I noticed that we were indeed the only living souls here.

I pirouetted in the sand, looking around us in disbelief. “How is this possible?”

Cody unloaded the backpack and wiped his brow, letting out a happy sigh. “How is what possible?”

“How is it possible that we’re standing on very possibly the most beautiful place on earth, and there’s nobody else here to ruin it for us?”

Cody grinned and pulled me close, kissing me. “Humankind hasn’t completely spoiled the planet yet, and let’s hope we never do. Mother Earth still has a hidden gem or two up her sleeve. You just have to know where to look.” He kissed me again, then unbuttoned my shirt and eased it off my shoulders. “Now, why don’t you put some sunscreen on this delicate skin of yours…” He kissed me on one shoulder, then the other. “Then cool off in those beautiful blue waters. We’ll stay in the shallows, I promise. Away from the sharks. And those killer sea turtles.”

He laughed and stripped off his own T-shirt.

Then off came his shorts.

And there he was, yet again, naked for all the world to see.

Or rather… just formeto see.

I grinned, glanced around once, then stripped off my own shorts.

Cody’s face lit up at the sight of me naked before him, our bodies shiny with sweat, our cocks stirring with the thrill of the moment.

He clutched my hand. “Come on, my beautiful, bookish nerd. Let’s go skinny dipping.”

I didn’t have to be told twice.

I didn’twantto be told twice in case I lost my nerve.

With my hand in his, Cody charged into the sea, pulling me down on top of him into the cool water, his kisses passionate and salty and sweeter than I ever dreamed.

We swam.
