Willow
The truck droveup the driveway and illuminated a woman waiting in front of the house. Her back was to us, and that was all I saw before Kit wrapped a hand around the back of my neck and forced me to lower my face down on the seat.
“Fuck. Willow, do nae let her see you.”
At the initial order, I froze. What the fuck did that mean? Who was she? No fucking way, was he mated? I saw no mating bites on him when I was taking him.
My stomach soured, dropping to the depths of hell as my mind ran wild. My heart rate spiked as my wolf perked up and raked her claws into my chest from the inside. She was definitely not making this feel any better.
Kit slammed the door behind me as I remained down on the seat.
Rowan growled and his bones popped as he shifted while exiting the car. Fortunately, Rowan left the door wide open, so their conversation could be heard.
“Come back to the pack. We need you. Kit...” She whispered his name in a small, no, a loving rasp.
Oh hells no.I unbuckled my seatbelt, but curiosity kept me in place.
“It is still nae time.”
What did he mean by that?! I seethed with indignation. Not time for what exactly?
“The pack made a mistake banishing you. Come back, I can convince them. You haven’t even checked in as you promised.” Frustration spilled from her tone.
“There was a... complication.”
I blinked as Kit’s words slammed into my chest. It physically hurt to hear that. I was the complication.
Who was this she-wolf he was giving answers to?
My stomach tightened. Dirt crunched, and I would bet Kit’s ass she’d stepped closer.
I couldn’t take it anymore. There was so much to unpack here, and I was confused, but on the heels of it was raging anger.
This chick seemed to know himverywell if the intimate way she spoke to him was any indication. I climbed out of the truck and stepped as loud as I could as I approached. Her eyes were fixed on me. Good. She was lucky I wasn’t bum-rushing her ass.
Kit rubbed his temples.
“Who is this?” She side-eyed me with a curl of her lips.
My teeth clicked together, and I stepped closer as my wolf bade. We wanted to attack her, but I was holding on by a thread of indignation with Kit’s name on it. How dare he tell me to hide while he spoke to a woman? I turned my attention to him, glaring. The anger was also helping me out with my lack-of-shoes situation. The socks I’d gotten from him were soaked from the thin layer of ice. I hadn’t thought this through, but it was too late. I mentally grabbed onto the irritation in my head and wrapped myself up in it.
It was a good thing the headlights were still on, because I wanted him to see how dissatisfied I was with him.
His shoulders jerked straight and he was to my side with two long strides. I wrenched to his side, avoiding his touch. Rowan’s pelt brushed my baggy sweats, and I leaned into him as he growled at the woman.
I buried my fingers in his fur. She watched with her mouth dropped, gaze bouncing from me to him.
My wolf did not like the vibes she was giving off. I pressed my lips together, unimpressed.
A gust of wind fluttered my hair, and she sucked in a deep breath.
“Sh-sh-he’s...”
Kit sighed and inched a little in front of me.
“Go away, Bria.” Kit growled and turned to me. “You should have stayed in the car.” His voice had become a touch gentler.
He wanted me to remain in the car so she didn’t find out I was an Omega. I wanted to groan in frustration, but I held my cool, tightening my fingers in Rowan’s fur. I was getting as much heat as I could from him because it was freezing out here. How was it possible for it to be this fucking cold?!
