“When did you find an Omega?” The confusion in her voice was mingled with shock. Her eyes were plastered to me, but my expression didn’t soften.
“She is not simply an Omega, she’s my mate,” Kit snapped, the brogue thickening his words with a growl.
Okay, I wasn’t as pissed at him anymore. Still semi-pissed, but notaspissed. “I ask that you leave and not speak of this. I will return when the time is right.”
I frowned. Return to their pack? I thought they were lone wolves. What was he not saying?
I wanted to ask him every question in the book, but I couldn’t. I had to take the time to write it out and list them. I exhaled from my nose and the white puff of air ballooned in front of me.
“But you can protect the pack best.”
I’d stepped forward a few steps. All eyes turned to me. I wanted to drag my wolf by the ear for forcing me into this position.
I lifted my arm and aggressively pointed in her direction. She looked at me, her eyebrows raised high. I did not like that. I narrowed my eyes and turned my shoulders so I faced her, lip lifted in a sneer.
She took it as a challenge and faced me head-on. When I’d strode forward, it placed me about five feet from her, close enough I could tell I was taller than her.
She was a dominant Beta, it radiated from her. The blanket of it settled over me and caressed my skin, falling away. As an Omega, I could easily let it fall from me. Dominance from other wolves only affected an Omega as much as we allowed it.
Rowan snapped in her direction and Bria stumbled back a step.
There was an exasperated huff and then I was swept off my feet. My toes curled to protect themselves from the chill.
I glared up at Kit.
“You’ll lose your toes, lass.”
I pressed my lips together and turned my head back toward the woman still staring at us. More than anything, this seemed to set her back in shock. Her eyes lifted from him to me and then back again. Her swallow was audible.
I didn’t like the way she looked at my mate. My stomach tightened and my wolf took my moment of weakness to jump forward. I lunged toward Kit and sank my teeth into his shoulder.
He hissed out a breath and the muscle twitched under my clamped jaw. Blood filled my mouth, the copper taste spreading on my tongue. My eyes widened and I blinked, still attached to him like a leech. His nose was slightly wrinkled at the base, and his eyes flared wide.
Shit. I slowly drew back with a slight slurp. I’d torn through his shirt with my bite. My wolf was not happy, and she was letting him know.
I swallowed the blood coating my tongue and turned away from him, face burning hot. Rowan chuffed and it sounded like a wolf version of a laugh. I switched my glare down to him and he sneezed, looking away. I was so embarrassed it wasn’t even funny.
Kit exhaled slowly and I peeked at him from the corner of my eyes. His jaw clenched and his gaze was fixed slightly over my head. Still, his grip remained gentle around me. A gust of wind lifted all the hair on my body, and I curled closer to Kit. I was sure it was impossible to feel colder, but I was dead wrong. A speck of iciness landed on my skin and then another. Lifting my head, I watched the snowflakes fluttered down in flurry.
“You need to leave,” Kit said as he strode toward the front of the house. “I’ll get the fire started for you, lass,” he added in a lower tone at me. There was no acknowledgment I’d bitten the shit out of him. I frowned. Worked for me, because I wasn’t bringing that up.
“If I leave now, I’ll get caught in the storm,” the woman said, alarm in her voice. Kit’s stride didn’t stutter. That was what she deserved. Humph. She came here probably wanting to get caught up withmyKit.
I shivered from the cool air and peeked over Kit’s shoulder as we reached the threshold of the door and saw Bria rubbing her arms and looking around like a lost puppy.
Damn it. Don’t do it, seriously, don’t do it. My wolf shoved up against my rib cage aggressively. I ignored both and peeked behind Kit and snapped my fingers. She looked at me and I waved her toward us. She pressed her lips together, but quickly rushed after us.
Kit’s sigh raised his chest, his head shaking slightly, and I frowned up at him. Rowan had passed us and was in the house as Kit headed toward the shower. He balanced me in one arm as he tugged the wet socks from my feet. Once he shoved the bathroom door open, he set me on a towel and turned on the shower. He was a werewolf on a mission. He pulled the shirt off me and crouched to pull my sweats down. I licked my lips at his proximity to my flesh and brought my arms up to cover my breasts.
My attention fixed on his bleeding shoulder.
“I’ll start the fire for you,” he said gruffly and lifted to cup my face. I avoided his touch and jerked back, turning on him as I got in the hot shower. Who was that woman? I still didn’t have answers as to who the woman was, and I was sure I wouldn’t like it.
Was I being petty? Sure was. Did I care? Nope.
He sighed. “Stubborn lass,” he muttered. “I’ll set another shirt for you to wear on the bed.”
I didn’t even look at him as he exited.
