“I was doing it for the kid, Kit,” he muttered belligerently. “You made your choice to leave the pack to me and be banished with your brother. A little respect would be nice.”
“You took my mate,” Kit snarled, rage molting his expression.
“Only the people in this room know!” he retorted belligerently.
“I’m going to knock this kid out.” Camden wasn’t helping the situation and the girl looked terrified.
I huffed and clapped my hands together once. The slap resonated through the room and everyone’s attention turned toward me. Briskly stomping forward, I stepped in front of Kit, forcing him back.
“Why didn’t you tell me you knew an Omega?” I smacked my opened palm into Kit’s chest.
Clyde, Morag, and Jace gasped.
His brows furrowed and his lips thinned.
Kit looked toward Camden for translation but he smirked and crossed his arms. I smacked my hand into Kit’s chest again and his shoulders jerked back.
“Camden,” he snapped.
“That was quite a rude demand, Kit.” Camden lifted his hand, tugging at a hairband around his wrist. That was mine!
“Please,” Kit gritted out.
“She asked why you’re such a fucking dick.” He smirked. “And why you didn’t tell her you knew an Omega.”
Kit scowled. “I wasn’t intentionally hiding it from you.”
I huffed and lifted my hand, palm up. I turned back to the shocked expressions of our audience and mouthed,Sorry, staring directly into the girl’s eyes. She grinned at me.
“Would it be all right if she contacted you if Pen ever has questions, Willow?” Morag tentatively asked.
I adamantly nodded and her expression slackened, her shoulders lowering with a deep exhale.
“We’re leaving,” Kit snapped and gripped my wrist.
“Do you nae miss being Alpha?” Jace taunted. Kit tensed, his fingers flexing around my wrist. He released me and slammed his fist into the Alpha’s face.
Camden shuffled me through the door, his palm flat on my spine.
“It’s a pretty small pack, but I want you out of here before anyone catches your scent. They might not hurt the Omega kid, but you’re fresh meat,” Camden explained, rushing me out. I stumbled over my feet and he pulled me into his arms, hurrying to the old truck a few feet away. My mind wandered as he buckled me in.
Kit never responded to his comment, did that mean he missed it? Was I holding him back?
* * *
As soon asKit parked the car in his driveway, I hopped out. My mind overflowed with information. I was too on edge to be around right now.
“Lass,” Kit called gruffly and Rowan whined. I slammed the door, ignoring them. Stupid Kit. I clicked my teeth together and quickened my stride.
“I got her,” Camden snapped and the crunch of his footsteps followed. I rolled my eyes up at the sky. What, now they were communicating? I scoffed.
I was completely on edge. I couldn’t get Kit’s look out of my head and it burned in the back of my corneas.
Then the tension in my throat was not helping.
He hadn’t changed his behavior toward me other than becoming quieter and watching me. It was as if Rowan had injected some of his staring issues into Kit. Did it potentially have anything to do with the way I tensed up when he’d touched me? Possibly.
But my mind was a mess and the overthinking was getting crazy.
