In the timeit took them to get home, I’d agonized and stressed out, waiting in my room until the valve was turned on and I could step under the hot water to clear my mind. After finishing and getting ahold of my emotions, I stepped into the sparsely decorated living room where I’d waited for my other two mates as they showered.
Rowan’s head rested on my thigh and I dragged my fingers through his long brown hair. His gaze hadn’t wavered from my face.
Camden walked in, rubbing his hair with the small towel, face clean shaven.
“Call Kit, please.”
Camden frowned but called out for Kit.
I tapped Rowan for him to sit up as Kit strode into the area.
Peering at Camden, who watched me, I waved for him to sit. After a beat, he did as I motioned, but Kit remained standing and I huffed—stubborn wolfman. Pressing my lips together, my gaze bounced from one to the other.
I inhaled sharply, pulling out my phone and typing in my message. I wanted them all to hear me at once. Camden had an advantage with understanding ASL, and I could see how that hurt Kit. I clicked the button for it to read out what I typed.
“Do you guys want to be with me?”
Heat flushed my face. The voice was high-pitched and cheerful and considering what I wanted it to convey, it was not the mood I was going for. Their gazes bore down on me. I cleared my throat, wiggling my toes within my shoes.
Camden burst into laughter and even Kit smirked. I narrowed my eyes at them.
I furiously typed the next part.
“I’m serious. I’ll leave you guys alone if you want nothing to do with my baggage.”
That shut them up, although there was still a slight smirk on Camden’s lips.
“You want to leave with him?” Kit strode toward me, and I shot to my feet, shaking my head. His steps were precise and intimidating. I was already leaning back as he pressed into my space, rage contorting his features.
The hair on my arms lifted and I licked my lips. Electricity seemed to crackle through the air. This did not feel like a good vibe. I cleared my throat.
This would not work.
“No. I’m talking about all of you,” the cheerful voice announced.
His presence crackled, even with the space between us, and he dragged his fingers through his hair. My insecurities roared forward and I furiously typed my fears.
“Think about it, you’re already acting weird with me. Detached. Is it because you want to return to your pack? You never denied Jace’s claims. This will never work, Kit. I don’t want to live in a pack and that’s been what you’ve wanted.” I shook my head. “It’s already a mess.”
Kit’s jaw twitched and his eyes narrowed. His incredulity pounded at me as I furiously continued typing. “Then I find out you lied about the Omega child—”
“Enough,” he snarled, his clothing bursting from his body as he grew into his monster form. “I. Did. Not. Lie.” My face flushed and I gritted my teeth, getting fired up in the face of his anger. Okay, he never lied, but still! My wolf perked up at his anger, taking interest in this new passionate reaction.
“You may have not lied but you weren’t forthcoming. You could have told m—”
“Excuses,” he roared. The phone clattered to the ground.
“I’m surprised you caught on to her tendency, Scot.”
Kit ignored Camden, continuing his tirade. “There was nae opportunity tae explain my past to you. If we’d had more time before they stole you from me, I would have explained everything.” His words verged on snarls in his monster form. “I do nae need a pack. What matters is you.”
The thickness in my throat returned with furious vengeance.
“You are not going anywhere without me.”
I was already shaking my head, trying to wrap my brain around this.
