“I returned.” She huffed and crossed her arms.
Who the hell was she?
I was about to start swinging, which was a bad move since, hello, they were demons. I gritted my teeth and tapped my foot.
Tene finally, finallylooked over his shoulder at me.
“Get inside.”
He gripped my arm, and I wrenched it out of his limp grip, opening faint gashes in my arm.
“Who is she?” I snapped, glaring up at him.
His eyes flared brightly, and he exhaled from his nose, attention fixed on the thin two lines of blood on my arm. He made a move to grab me, but I stepped back. Was I jealous right now? I scoffed and shook my head, backing up ... I felt possessive of him?
“You’re the most feared in this area. Others avoid this sector because of you ... and you’re allowing a human to behave this way?”
I swung my stunned gaze to hers and scoffed.
“I’m not just a human,” I snapped. I’m his human.
Thank God that didn’t come out of my mouth.
The demoness’s onyx eyes slitted, and her head dipped. All that kept replaying in my head were those sharp horns impaling my body. I cleared my throat and licked my lips.
“I will tear you to pieces if you touch her.”
She jerked back as if stunned.
What the hell was going on? She was so shocked by his behavior, as if she was used to more loving or gentler reactions from him. This was not good, and it caused this lump in my throat to expand.
“I’ll leave.” I wrapped my arms around my torso to contain my skyrocketing heartbeat.
Tene lunged forward, the movement so quick I yelped.
“No,” he hissed, hoisting me into his arms.
His glowing eyes narrowed, and he shook me, unsteadying me. I flailed to grip his horn so I didn’t topple to the ground, and he sucked in a breath. His body tensed, and I frowned as we stared at each other. I dragged my fingertips down the rough slope, and his breathing changed.
The demoness moved and he growled, sending her cringing back. He clutched me tight as he retreated into the cave.
SIXTEEN
BRIDGET
His glow illuminated our room, and I stared up at him as his shoulders moved up and down in quick succession. I dragged my fingertips up his neck and past the sharp angles of his face, to grip into his horns, flexing my fingers around the rough texture, and his shoulders shuddered. His eyes brightened, and he stopped near the pile where we slept and fucked.
“Who is she?” I repeated.
He hissed, eyes flaring. “No concern to you. She will never touch you.”
That was enough to him. No answer was needed.
I understood why. He was a monster. He didn’t understand my emotions, but I wouldn’t lie to myself. Frustration bubbled, and my fingers flexed around his horns, encircling it and rubbing downward to the base. Tene exhaled, the noise on the verge of being a whimper.
I repeated the motion.
“Who is she?” I trailed my fingertips along the arch of his horn. His mouth opened, and I had full view of his dangerous teeth.
