The tabletop reached the middle of my breasts, and I carefully placed the mugs on the table.

“Need anything else?” I asked, smiling.

“No thanks,” the female orc said, cuddling up to the male human. I smiled and backed away, holding my tray.

I kept my attention forward. If I didn’t pay Liam attention, then he’d leave me alone.

“Stop following me,” I muttered and stopped at the base of the bar stairs.

“I miss you. I miss us.” He brushed his hair back. “Does our past not mean anything?”

“You tell me.” I smirked.

“Yes!”

Well, the sarcasm flew over his head. I exhaled slowly. Seriously?

“You tied me up and left me to die, you creep.”

“Bridget, need you up here,” Rory called. Tenebrous’s glowing form dragged my attention to him as he approached.

Shit.

“He will kill you if you keep it up,” I hissed, and whirled toward Rory to place the tray back on the bar.

Don’t act suspicious.Don’t act suspicious.

I straightened my shoulders and rounded as far away from Liam as I could.

Tene’s glow flared from behind me, illuminating Rory’s face.

“I’m going to need to leave,” I croaked.

I wasn’t sure if it was the expressionlessness or his constant hissing that made everyone pause. Pounding down the steps, I intercepted his narrow focus on Liam.

“Who is the human?”Shit.

I sighed and rubbed my eyes.

“No bloodshed, Bridget,” Rory warned.

Shit!

I scurried after him as he neared Liam who gawked up at Tene.

“Who is this?”

“No one, Tene,” I said, and wrapped my arm around his murdering-happy arm, inching myself in front of him.

“Lies.”

“Okay, okay. He was just someone that I was close to.”

I hooked my arms around his, unsuccessfully pinning them. Why was he this wide?! Either way, he’d have to brush me off to do anything, and time was better than anything.

Tene hissed, his glow flaring. Liam stumbled backward.

“Don’t, Tene. He doesn’t matter anymore. I have and want you.” Damn, he wasn’t listening. “Remember our talk!”
