“I paid for her, creature,” Nikita announced. I panted, pressing my cheek against his chest. She came slithering forward.

Tene’s eyes narrowed, and he strode forward. I sucked in a breath, clenched my thighs at his waist, and waved my hand to block his sight. I’d seen the vicious look in his eyes before, and if he went on a killing spree, everyone would be in danger—including the humans.

“No,” I yelled. “Do not hurt anyone, Tene.” His jaw feathered, eyes flaring brightly as he focused over my shoulder. “Tene!”

He dropped his attention to me.

“You protect them?”

I scoffed, shaking my head.Thatstuck out to him?

“Don’t hurt anyone. They helped me.” That still didn’t seem to sate the anger and he remained stiff, on the brink of attack. “They kept me safe.”

Okay, that got in. His enraged face relaxed.

“I need to talk to him,” I announced, hoping the snake woman would back off. I licked my lips and held my breath. She had no reason to listen, but by the narrowing of her eyes, she debated it.

“I will trust you to not escape, human. There is an unused floor on the left wing.” Nikita snapped her fingers. “Show them to it, Issa.”

Footsteps rushed forward, and I squeezed my eyes shut, wiggling in place. Heat seared my face from both embarrassment and arousal. Tene’s cock twitched, and I sucked in a breath, peering up at his flared eyes.

“Let’s go,” I said, tipping my chin up. His glow returned and he grunted.

How did he seem so unbothered by his dick buried deep inside me?

Each sway of his hips jolted his cock in my channel, and I shuddered.

Tene cupped my ass and dragged me up, propping me tight against him. With pleasure slicing into me at every step, I could hardly feel the puncture of his claws.

I couldn’t handle the suspense anymore. What would he do to me for killing the demoness? He didn’t react as I expected—he never did. Was he drawing out my agony?

“I killed the demoness.”

He froze as his runes flared. Only a moment of stillness went by before he hoisted me higher, a purr rumbling from his chest. I tipped my head back but had to shut my eyes since he was too bright to look at.

“Is this why you left me?”

I tensed, sucking in a lungful of air. My chest expanded painfully.

“Breathe, my human.” His eyes flared, and he continued ascending with aggressive steps that fed his cock deeper into me. I kept my lips sealed as I battled with the increasing lust and fixed my gaze on his face. The sharp planes of his cheek seemed to be a steel line and it bunched as if he were clenching his dangerous teeth.

He hadn’t killed me yet . . . A shadow cast over his face as he walked us into the hall.

I searched his features for anything to hint at his thoughts, but there was no use. Issa popped the door open to the twelfth floor. She flattened against the wall, but Tene didn’t pay her any attention.

“The fifth door to the left is furnished,” she called, and I didn’t have the energy to look at her.

His runes illuminated the hall, guiding to where she directed us. It opened to a large square room. The walls were smooth, and in the middle was a simple bedframe with a mattress.

“Will you kill me for what I did to her?” I licked my lips. I needed assurance. My voice bounced off the surfaces, echoing much louder than I’d meant.

The base of his nose scrunched.

“The fear coming from you burns my nose.” His head dipped, and he sniffed near my throat. I tensed, sucking in a deep breath. Did he plan to kill me when I had my guard down? No, that didn’t make sense because he hadn’t held back with killing so far.

I blinked. His grip tightened before he lowered me to the edge of the bed with such caution ...

Why was he so gentle?
