TWENTY-FIVE

BRIDGET

I still reeledfrom his words, so much so I couldn’t fall asleep after his announcement, so I lay here, staring at him for who knew how long. Tenebrous’s arms flexed around my waist. He’d curled himself around me like a snake, pressed as close as possible. His tail had wound itself around my thigh, the tip still burrowed in my pussy.

I peeked up at him from under my eyelashes. He made me feel so small and taken care of. I pressed my cheek into his hard, textured chest.

Everything he said—I felt the same way about him. Parting from him wasn’t an option anymore. I wasn’t sure when it happened or how I could have fallen, but I did.

I sighed, rubbing my nose into his leathery skin.

I was supposed to get to work to prepare the tables with Issa, so I should get a move on it, but first, I had to extricate myself from his hold.

His claw curled into my skin, and I wiggled so there was a small space for me to free my hand. I used that arm to pull his fingers away, one by one, until I could slide free.

His tail remained, so I pressed my lips together and reached for the tip stuffed inside me and tried to keep my body still. Despite my efforts, my pussy fluttered, fighting to clutch onto him.

I squeezed my eyes shut and wrapped my hand around the tail to stop it from burrowing deeper. This wasn’t the time to get turned on. His tail unwound from my thigh as I shimmied away, and with one foot on the ground, I quietly slipped off the mattress. His hands squeezed the bedding, and his claws clutched it like he’d been gripping me. His runes remained the dull low color they were when he slept.

Quickly moving, I tracked down spare clothing and shoes near the door. Issa must have dropped them off.

I gave him one more glance before escaping the room. Hopefully, he slept long. I rushed down the stairs.

A step creaked, and I paused, peering around, but after seeing nothing, I continued downstairs. The worst creepy crawly sensation skittered over my neck, but I kept on my path. Blue flashed in the corner of my eye, and I whirled.

“How long have you been following me?”

Tenebrous continued toward me, lessening the space between us until he invaded my space.

“You can’t come with me. Just wait in the room, and I’ll be back.” I didn’t want to be late. “Go back, please and I will explain later.” I picked up my pace, the thud of my steps loud.

Even without hearing him, I was sure he still followed. I whirled midstep. He remained a foot away from me and stared down without expression.

“You have to stay,” I said, exasperated.

“I will go where you go.”

My chest tightened from the statement.

“That’s not how it works, Tenebrous.” I cleared my throat.

Tenebrous tilted his head.

“I don’t understand.”

I pressed my lips together. He was so damn precious. I shook my head.Get it together. If he came with me—I couldn’t imagine how he would behave. What if he ate someone?

“You need to stay here, and I will go over there. When I finish working, I will come back. I won’t disappear, Tene.” I rubbed my palms against his warm arms, craning my head to look up at him with a forced smile.

His expression tightened, and his sharp teeth flashed with a grimace.

“I will see you later. Stay.”

I stepped a few feet away and looked over my shoulder. Tenebrous remained in place. I sighed, good.

An orc stood sentry at the base of the stairs, and he watched me as I rushed past him. A moment later, a familiar hiss had me skidding to a stop.
